I am so sorry to have missed seeing this obituary. Dr. Rebeccas Shank was more than a mere doctor; she was truly caring & supportive...more like a friend...applying time, talent, energy & compassion. She is deeply missed. Every since her passing, I've felt compelled to pass these words on to her loved ones. Now it is done. May the LORD God bless & comfort, lead & guide each of you all the days of this earthly life. I ask this in Yeshua's name...Jesus our Christ & coming KING!

My condolences and regards to the family and friends of Becky. I am sad to hear of her passing. I only found out today when surfing the net for her and Chuck Shank. Becky and Chuck Shank were my best friends in Medical school at Galveston 1979-1983. We used to study together all the time. Becky was the best student always. I was saddened again to hear of the death of Chuck Shank. They were both great people. I will include them and their families in my prayers.

I'm deeply saddened to hear about Dr. Shank. When I saw her in March, I told her what a godsend she has been to me over the past 6 years. I am fulfilling my dream of returning to college, which I couldn't have done without her care. She encouraged me in so many ways, and I am blessed to have known her. My deepest sympathies go out to her family.

I have been a patient of Dr. Shank's for about 10 years--she took over where Dr. Marks (my child neurologist) left off and I was a big fan! So much so that when she moved her practice to Granbury, she told me she understood that it was a loooong drive for me (almost an hour) and that she would give me some recommendations for other neurologists still in my area if I wanted them. I said, "No way! I'll drive however far it takes because I enjoy having you as my neurologist!" She said that was fine too. :)
I'm truly very sorry for this world's loss.

I just learned of Dr. Shank's death. I am in shock and disbelief. I was a patient for the last few years and felt at ease with her...she was very easy to talk to, kind and caring. She was a one of a kind doctor. May God be with her family. She will be missed all.

Dr. Rebecca Shank took her neurology training with us here at the University of Florida (Gainesville). As an attending physician, I knew from the first day that I worked with her that she was going to be an outstanding neurologist. In addition to being able to learn and use her vast knowledge of neurological diseases and their treatments, she was always a kind and empathetic physician. She was also was an excellent teacher.
She will be missed, not only by her family and her patients, but even by all those physicians like me, who had the joy to work with her. She is gone, but the good she did for others will never end.

I heard of this tragedy from a colleague. Becky Shank was a resident in Neurology at the University of Florida from 1984 to 1987. Many faculty members who were privileged to have known her then are still here, and we remember her as a strong, compassionate, and dedicated physician and a wonderful person. The many expressions of grief and appreciation from her patients attest to her qualities as a physician. We offer our condolences to her family.

I will miss Dr. Shank. She was only my doctor for about 2 years. When she moved to Granbury, I followed. What a gift to mankind she was. She helped alot of people. I am less shocked now, but no less saddened by the loss of Dr. Shank. I still cannot believe I won't see her for my appointment next week. She had treated me for migraines for many years, and we were just beginning the long journey of Parkinson's. She was the kindest, most caring, most humane doctor I have ever known, and I will miss her terribly. My heart goes out to all of her family, friends, her nurses and staff. May God bless them in this time of sorrow.

Dr. Shank was my neurologist for the last couple of years. I first met her in Fort Worth after having a stroke. I saw her every few months for migraine headaches. We were on a quest to find the right combination of meds. She will be missed very much. I saw her the Thursday before the accident, and we laughed and talked as I left the office.

Ernestine and family:
I am so saddened, so deeply saddened, to hear about Becky's death. For those who knew her well, even in high school, we knew her drive would carry her well into the medical field. As we read other testimonials about "Dr. Shank", I and her other friends see that Rebecca Darlene Sisk never, ever strayed from her deep sense of goodness that she shared with us.
My life has been so blessed by Becky, as I learned from her life how to truly measure success. My prayers are with you all as we remember this great, wonderful, funny girl.
Ralph De La Cruz
April 29, 2008
I had the privilege of knowing Becky during high school. She was dynamic, funny, clever, sharp-edged, caring, thoughtful. And a heck of a tennis player. A natural leader-by-example.
Unfortunately, I didn't keep up with her much after we graduated. I only knew she went to medical school because my sister was finishing at Galveston about the time Becky arrived.
And yet, despite the distance of 31 years, I'm not the least bit surprised at the way she positively affected so many people, or at the tremendous outpouring of love on the pages of this guestbook.
Anybody who met Becky -- at any point in her life -- knew she was one of those people who changes the world by touching lives. One person at a time.
Pat, you must be a remarkable man to have had the chance to partner with Becky.
I'm sorry for your loss -- for our loss, for the world's loss. My thoughts and prayers are with you and y'all's children.

I was so shocked when Dr. Shank's nurse called me today! She has been my husband's Neurologist for 13 years and when our daughter received 2 concussions in basketball she treated her as well. She and I were the same age and our daughters, both named Megan, were in the same grade. I was so saddened when her first husband died but so glad she found love again and her family grew with more children. She will be so sorely missed by all her staff, patients and patient's families. The loss is a great one and our thoughts and prayers go out to all of her remaining family. She was stoic and so loving and caring through all of my personal ups/downs in our family. God took a wonderful angel home and she will be so missed.

I heard the news of Dr. Shank's death at Church yesterday. I almost fell out of my chair. Not only was she my favorite doctor, she was the most caring. Before my husband's death he was also a patient of hers. He felt the same about her, and he loved her red hair. She will be missed by many others as well as myself. I am still finding it hard to believe that she will not be there for my appointment next month.

Our family knew Dr. Shank-Gill only as "Becky", our sweet and wonderful next door neighbor who we got to know when she was a high school student in Austin, Tx. She babysat our three children on occasion and they so enjoyed her fun spirit, love and care. She had an interest and curiousity in so may things. I had the pleasure of teaching her to change the oil and do minor turn-ups on her car, which she pursued with much interest and vigor as she did with all things in life. She was just an all-american girl who knew few if any limitations. Our family will always remember Becky with joy in our hearts. She was one of our heroes. Our love and heartfelt sympathy goes out to her children, spouse and wonderful family.

I was referred to Dr. Shank in 2004 by Phillip Bechtel after removal of a meningioma. As a nurse, I had heard Dr. Shank's name before, but had not met her. I immediately knew she was someone special, as her knowledge and compassion were evident.
Two years later , she saw my mother, who was experiencing seizures and dementia, as well as significant mobility issues. The kindness she showed my mom was so touching: I will never forget it. She was even willing to follow up on my mother by phone, as she realized that transporting her to the office was difficult. When I told her of my mother's passing, she again was so kind and supportive.
To her family, I send my heartfelt condolences. The legacy she leaves is tremendous and I know that she is with her Heavenly Father. Please know that you will continue to remain in my thoughts and prayers.
Sincerely,

As I sit here this evening it is with a heavy heart. I attended your funeral yesterday and I was not at all surprised at the hugh turnout. I have been your patient now for ten years and knew you were someone special. It was not until I came to see you that I was told I really was having migraines as often as I thought. You validated my illness and set me on my road to recovery or at least a way to live with my illness.
It is going to be hard to start over with someone new but that is how it is. I am sure your colleagues are as competent as you.
To your family I am so sorry for all of you and hope you find comfort in knowing how much all of us loved and highly regarded Becky. She was truly a "Gem".
Sincerely,

Dr. Shank took amazingly kind care of my mother, Zoe Petersen, who had Parkinson's Disease. She diagnosed it and followed through with her until her death in 1997. My brother, Scott Petersen, and I were so very grateful and so thankful that Dr. Gregory Phillips had recommended Dr. Shank for our mother. She always had time for us and all of our questions. She used to laugh at my notepad during our office visits. There will certainly be a void in the medical profession. "God gave us our memory so we could have roses in December". I heard about this remarkable doctor named Dr. Shank and knew she was the answer to my prayers. I had been sick since June of '07 and my health was declining. I went to 3 doctors just to get a referral to see her. I can not tell you how excited I was when I first met her. I knew I was in the right hands. I saw her last on Friday 4-18-08 and she told me that we would push forward and get a diagnosis soon. She set me up for some testing and when I called Monday to find out the date and times I was mortified to hear about her passing. I do not think I will be able to get the type of care that she could have provided to me. I am so sad for her family, friends, patients and staff. Dr. Shank is irreplaceable. She will be truly missed.

The Day God Called You Home
We little knew that morning
God was going to call you home
It broke our hearts to lose you
You did not go alone
For parts of us went with you
The day God called you home
You left us beautiful memories
Your love is still our guide
And tho’ we cannot see you
You are always by our side
Our family chain is broke
And nothing seems the same
But as God calls us one by one
The Chain Will Link Again…

You don't know me personally,
but how I hurt with you,
Chris & Megan!
(And the other family members, too.)
Your Mother was the literal hand of GOD during the years she showed me how to care for my mom in her advancing Parkinson's disease. Dr Shank was beyond compare & I thank God for her.
Without a doubt, when she arrived** in heaven, God said to Becky: "Well done, good and faithful servant!"
Your Mother WILL continue to be cheering* you on, Chris & Megan, and --when God calls you from this life -- your Mother will be waiting at heaven's gate to welcome you into her arms.
Losing your Mother must be so painful right now, but --with God's strength-- you WILL be able to go on with your lives and to have happy times again,
just the way your Mother taught so many of us.
You, Becky's precious children, will stay in my prayers. I know you'll make your Mother proud of you.
Love in Christ,
Mrs. Vicki (Johns) Lee & family

Dear Chris and Megan,
The two of you probably do not remember me, but I worked with your mother at the Fort Worth Clinic. I was a friend of your father and helped care for him while he was sick. You have been in my prayers for years, and will always continue to be. Over two years ago I moved my practice to Dallas, and I have not been in touch with many of my physician friends in Fort Worth. I was deeply saddened with the news of Dr. Shank. I have been a patient of her's for the last three years after being diagnosed with MS. I have never been to a more compassionate, understanding and caring Doctor in my life. She was always so friendly and genuinely concerned about any issues that I may have been having with my illness. God Bless you Dr. Shank! In 1997 I was 20 years old and diag. with MS. Dr. Shank was the most wonderful doctor, especially to a very young college student who was just told she had MS. Dr. Shank always made me feel I could do anything despite my MS, and I have lived my life as such. You will be truly missed!

Dr. Shank became my neurologist in 1992 when she was at Fort Worth Clinic and remained my neurologist ever since. She was always willing to go the extra mile to figure out medical issues with me even when they were not in her realm of expertise. I was just in her office three weeks ago for my 6-month check up and who knew that it would be my last time to see her. We always enjoyed sharing bicycle stories as we both enjoyed cycling, and that was one of the last things we discussed as I was leaving her office. She was one of the most kind and considerate doctors I've ever had and will be greatly missed by the medical community.

Our loss is great! I will remember most Dr Shank's great hospitality. As her patient, I felt like a guest in her office; she so generously reached out to me and offered her best to help me through a difficult time. She gave more than just medical advice, she gave compassion and courage in the face of challenges. I am truly blessed to have had her a part of my life, and she is irreplaceable as a doctor and as a friend. Knowing how much I will miss her, I can only imagine how much she will be missed by her staff and her family. God bless you richly and sustain you in your great loss!

I consider it a real blessing to have had Dr. Shank as my doctor. She was so sweet to visit with my husband and me and try to answer all of our questions. She truly cared about people and God used her willingness to serve. Your family will be in my prayers.

I cannot express how heartbroken I was to hear about Becky. She was a wonderful lady, and a greatly valued friend and colleague. I knew how much she treasured her family. As a fellow neurologist, I also knew how uncommonly bright and skilled she was, and how extraordinarily devoted she was to her patients. My family and I extend our most heartfelt condolences to Pat, your children, and all of your family.

I am so sorry for your loss.
Dr. Shank was truly God's hand extended.
It breaks my heart that one so in love with her family and so loving and kind to her patients could be gone at such an early age.
I don't know any other doctor who could have seen me through my struggle with MS over the last 6 years. I will deeply, deeply miss her as a doctor and as the wonderful person she was.
You are all in my prayers and I know the Lord will cradle you in His arms during this time.

I was greatly saddened when I heard the news that Dr. Shank had died. I was just in her office last week with my son that will turn one on Monday. She played with him as he was her own. I will never forget her kindness and knowledge that she gave to me as my doctor. When I found out I had MS, about 5 years back, she was so kind and had great words of hope to share with me. I hope I will find another doctor that will be as caring and compassionate for my needs as Dr. Shank was to me while I was under her care.
Thanks, Dr. Shank!! I will miss you greatly.

You are in my thoughts and prayers.
I had the priviledge of working with Dr Shank at Harris Southwest. My husband had a mild stroke in 2004 and he went to see your mother a couple times for follow-up. It was a great relief to me that he got to see her for followuo

Dr.Shank was truely a remakable person. I worked for her as a nurse in a clinic not far from Harris Hospital Downtown. She was a joy to work with. I shared my time with her and Dr Emily Issacs.
There was one time we took Megan and Chris in 1991 to the convention center in fort worth to see Big Bird. God bless you and her family, she was truely a gifted person inside and out. I will miss her and my heart goes out to her family and childern.

I knew Dr Shank when I use to work on Medical/ Surgical floor @ Harris Southwest in Forth Worth. I remember her as a very compassionate, kind, and warm soul with low key profile. You all are in my thoughts and prayers. Please accept my heartfelt condolences. Sincerely, Esther Shawn (Harris Southwest friend)
