Donald Ivy Obituary

Donald Ray Ivy, 57, passed away Saturday, Nov. 29, 2008.
Memorial service: 4 p.m. Tuesday in the small sanctuary at Christ Chapel Bible Church.
Memorials: If desired, a tribute gift in Don's honor to the Gladney Center for Adoption would be greatly appreciated.
Don was born May 16, 1951, in Ranger. He married Anne Gambill in August 1971 and they went on a determined quest to populate the world with Ivys by having five biological children and then adopting a teenage son from Russia in October 2003.
Don graduated from the University of Texas at Arlington. He worked as an assistant manager at a drug store then in various capacities at Trinity Valley Iron and Steel before finding his true calling as a telephone system salesman, which he was for 25 years. In late July he accepted a position with TerraTelecom, which he tremendously enjoyed. His last week outside of a hospital was spent at a trade show in Corpus Christi, in fact.
Don was an utterly devoted husband and father whose family was his overriding interest and passion. At no time did any family or friend look to him for help or guidance and was turned away. He was a committed Christian who showed Christ to all with whom he came in contact.
Survivors: Wife of 37 years, Anne; daughters, Kirstin Kloesel and husband, Matt, and Jessica Smith; sons, Jonathan, Alex and wife, Beth, Charles and Dmitry; brothers, Richard and Joe; eight dearly loved grandchildren, in order of appearance on the planet, Kirsten, Bethany, Brianna, Benjamin, Bryson, Hannah, Bridgette and Faith.

Dear and esteemed Anne,

Mary Lee and I are very sad to hear of your sudden loss. And yet, your loss is Don's great gain, isn't it? I remember when my Dad died years ago, one older widower wrote Mud a note saying the living spouse gives a gift of love to the spouse who goes before him.

May God comfort you, dear sister.

In the love and hope of Jesus Christ,

Tim and Mary Lee Bayly

Anne, I only knew Don through your bloggings. Seeing your happy, loving family growing and changing for the last 5 years as I've read your blog made the announcement of Don's death something personal to me. I felt as if someone I knew had died. The suddenness of his death was jolting, to say the least. Although I am a stranger for the most part, I went into mourning for you. I felt deeply saddened for you and your family. I felt in my heart the pain of your sudden loss. I still can't believe he's gone. You are in my prayers and heart, Anne and family.

Anne I learned of Don's passing only today. I am so shocked and sorry for your loss.
Don was a very sweet and wonderful man who made time for everyone. You two were always the perfect couple.
I know your faith and family will see you through this most difficult time and leave you with only the dearest of memories.
I regret that we never managed to catch up with each other in the past few months. Perhaps I could have shared this burden. If you need anything please let me know and I hope to stay in touch.
Love,
Debbe

I have only today, Wednesday, heard of Don's passing. Please accept our most sincere condolences and know that Ruth and I hope we may be of some small assistance should you need it.

If there ever was a person who could go on without regrets it's Don. A hell of a guy and a good friend. I don't feel as much sad as I do lost without Don to talk to. I can only believe it is like this, Anne, but much more so for you and yours. It is my greatest hope that you may all get an extra measure of blessings for having been there for him.

May God Bless You and Keep You All Forever

with kindest possible thoughts for you and Don,

Don, I spent my time at your memorial service thinking of the great times we had in high school. Even though our paths rarely crossed in later years, when I thought of someone being a good, stable and honest man, you always came to mind. As you enter the gates of heaven, look for my beloved son Cameron. You'll know him when you see him. He'll be the blond kid that looks like me and like you, he has a smile that would melt a glacier. Tell him to show you around and tell him that his old dad misses him. Vaya con dios my friend.

Dear Anne and Family,
We are so sorry about your loss. Don was and will continue to be a very special husband and father. This feeling does not die with his death, if anything, it grows stronger. Now, at almost 16 years after my dad's death that feeling is stronger than ever. I wish I could say it will get easier in time, but it really doesn't. You have your good days with your bad days, but you just learn to deal with them as they come.
We send our love and prayers to all of you.

I read that Don was a committed Christian...and that he showed Christ in his life. The Bible says that precious in the sight of the Lord is the homecoming of his children. (Psalm 116:15 paraphrase mine) While we might not have chosen this particular time for Don to go to be with the Lord...we can take comfort in the fact the he is truly....home.

Thanks to God for giving us Don.

I know Don as a Salesman. I bought a ShoreTel system from him. He was an honest man and truly loved his work. During lunch one day I noted a "religious" ring on his finger and asked if he was a Christian? He replied yes, that he was. That explained a lot about Don... I am so sorry for the loss to his family, but they know he's being well cared for up above!
