It has been over 10 years since I have worked for Mr. D. The memories are still with me as if they were yesterday. He was an incredible Man, Husband, Father and Grandfather. He taught me many things in the years I worked for him. He will be missed by those who knew him well and those who knew him for his generosity. His smile will never be forgotten nor will his loyalty toward his family, friends, charities and Juanita's Foods.

May God be with the De La Torre family at this time. My prayers are with you.

Although we have been away from Wilmington for 8 years we still remember all the good times and people. George, Lee and family were a big part of those memories. Made our great God give comfort and healing in the days ahead for the love ones and made the thought of friends who help bear this burden give hope and love from those who so deeply care.

When I worked at the Wilmington Chamber of Commerce, I was in charge of getting the door prizes for the mixers. I remember one time I went down to Juanita's to pick up the door prize and I met Gina - daughter. George always made sure to donate a door prize every month at the mixers and also at the Black Tie event.

George DE La Torre, was a very kind man and loved his family deeply. When I think of George and Lee I think of the story book marriage, George was a unique gentleman, and a wonderful grandfather to all his beautiful grandchildren and was so kind to our daughter Stephanie our daughter who is expecting a baby in june and George told Stephanie that she was going to have a baby boy, George walked a mountain and said Stephanie was going to have a Girl and the Doctor said that Stephanie was having a Baby girl, this touched my heart. George and Lela were great friend to my parents and myself from when I was a little girl in elementary school. I grew up next door to them when George's dad worked at the cannery. George used to bring us smoked fish to try. Boy, was that delicious. I can still remember unwrapping it in the white butcher paper and the aroma of the fish. My dad remembers George bringing home "samples" of his menudo to get my dad's perspective. George had to get the spices just right. What a kind and special man you were to me growing up George. You and your family will hold a special place in my heart forever. My prayers go out to all of you.

I had the pleasure of meeting Mr. De la Torre in 1995 at a Food Drive in Wilmington, Ca. I was a member of the Wilmington Teen Center Council. It was so cold and we were handing out bags of food to those in need. Mr. De la Torre came over with a HUGE hot pot of menudo for us. He was so generous and very kind. He later took the Teen Council to Tony Romas for all our hard work. I always remembered him and would speak highly of him. He was very good to us. I'm very sorry to hear of your loss, he was a wonderful man. I hope you find comfort in your loving memories. Blessings,

George was a Business Icon in Wilmington. I had the pleasure of working with George while we were members of the Wilmington Optimists Club. We became good friends as a result. George was a smart businessman and he knew how to give his customers what they wanted. He helped me on several occasions with good sound business advice. George NEVER forgot where he came from and had a great desire to help the youth of Wilmington. We will miss his kind wisdom. George always liked those really fancy golf courses and now he is playing on the most perfect one of all. Our prayers and thoughts go out to all his family and friends.
