Steven P. Umina Sr.

WALTHAM Mr. Steven P. Umina Sr., 83, of Waltham, died Wednesday, July 2, 2008, in his home. Born in Newton, a son of the late John and Catherine (Rando) Umina, Steven was a self-employed electrician for many years. Steven was a graduate of Newton Technical High School, as well as Wentworth Institute. He was a member of the American Legion Post # 440 in Newton, and was an avid gardener, square dancer, loved to travel and spend the winter months in Puerto Rico. Steven was also a World War II veteran, serving with the U.S. Navy on the USS Wisconsin, and attended their yearly reunions. Steven was the brother of the late John "Pete" Umina. Steven leaves his wife of 68 years, Rose M. (Giardina) Umina; his children, John T. Umina and his wife, Catherine, of Concord, Joan M. Chalikis and her husband, George, of Waltham, Steven P. Umina Jr. and his wife, Nancy, of Newton, Lisa D. Umina of New York, and Dona Marrazzo and her husband, James, of Hudson; two brothers, Gerald Umina of Mashpee, Tony Umina of Seattle; a sister, Josephine Johnson of Pheonix; 13 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. The funeral will be held on Monday, July 7, at 10:30 a.m. from the Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main St. (Rte. 20), Waltham, followed by a funeral Mass in Sacred Heart Church, 311 River St., Waltham, at 11:30 a.m. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Waltham. Visiting hours are Sunday, July 6, from 2 to 6 p.m.
