Jack Douglas Vineyard

Jack Douglas Vineyard, 76, of Charlottesville, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, November 26, 2008, surrounded by his loving family.

Born on April 2, 1932, in Morgan County, Tennessee, he was the son of the late Walter K. and Flossie Daniel Vineyard.

Jack served with and was honorably discharged from the United States Army from June 11, 1956 to September 3, 1959; he retired from the University of Virginia after over 37 years of service as a Bio-medical Engineer; a member of the Woodmen of the World Lodge #279; an avid Covenant School Football fan; and volunteered for the Jefferson Area Food Bank and the First United Methodist Church Soup Kitchen. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather.

He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Pattie Saunders Vineyard; a daughter, Kathryn Pace and her husband, Jon, of Earlysville; a son, Stephen Vineyard and his wife, Bonnie, of Earlysville; six grand-children, Jason Pace of Richmond, Ashleigh P. Morris and her husband, Ricky, of Earlysville, Lindsey Pace, Jonathan Pace, Taylor Vineyard, and Rheed Vineyard all of Earlysville; and a great granddaughter, SaraBeth Morris of Earlysville. Other survivors include his sister, Marian Vineyard Martin and her husband, Otis; and many other nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, November 29, 2008, at the First United Methodist Church with the Reverend Dr. Harry Kennon officiating. Interment will follow with military honors in Holly Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends from 6 until 7:30 p.m. Friday, November 28, 2008, at the Hill and Wood Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Thomas Jefferson Area Food Bank, 1207 Harris Street, Charlottesville, VA 22906-6415.
