JAMES E. HARLOW

James Emmett "Jim' Harlow, 72, husband of Emily (Madison) Harlow, of Staunton, died Thursday, August 27, 2009 at Rockingham Memorial Hospital, Harrisonburg.

He was born April 27, 1937 in Staunton, a son of the late E. Austin and Charlotte Virginia (Ballengee) Harlow.

Mr. Harlow was a veteran of the U. S. Air Force.

Prior to retirement, Mr. Harlow had been employed by Community Bank.

He was an active member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church, where he served on the Usher Board. He was also a member of the Augusta/Staunton V.F.W. Post #2216 and the Elks Lodge #351.

In addition to his beloved wife, Emily, family members include a son and daughter-in-law, Michael W. and Candice Harlow of Grottoes; a daughter, Teresa K. Hey and her special friend, Jeremy Harmes of Staunton; a brother and sister-in-law, Dennis A. and Sue Harlow of Elkton; four grandchildren, Jennifer C. Snyder and her husband, Jason, Jacqueline Roadcap and her husband, Andrew, Jessica VanDevander and her husband, Travis, and Jeremy W. Chandler; five great grandchildren, Trey Shrieves, Joseph Roadcap, Trenton Southerly, Gabriel Roadcap, and Austin James VanDevander; many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews; and his beloved little "Bandit".

A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, August 31, 2009 at St. Paul's United Methodist Church by the Reverend Jeff Allen. Burial will follow in Oaklawn Mausoleum and Memory Gardens with graveside rites by the Augusta/Staunton V.F.W. Post 2216.

Active pallbearers will be Jeremy Harmes, Buster Sexton, Rowland Byrd, David Rathburn, Philip Rathburn, and Richard Rathburn.

Honorary pallbearers will be his fellow Elks and his co-workers at Community Bank.

The family will receive friends from 6 until 9 p.m. today, Sunday, August 30, 2009 at St. Paul's Church and other times at his residence.

Memorials may be made to St. Paul's United Methodist Building Fund, 2000 Shutterlee Mill Road, Staunton, VA 24401.

The family would like to extend their deepest appreciation and thanks to the doctors, nurses, and staff of the UVA Medical Center, Virginia Baptist Hospital of Lynchburg, and the Harrisonburg Health and Rehabilitation Center for their loving care during Jim's illness.
