John Joseph Murphy

John "Jack" Joseph Murphy, 84, of Lake Monticello, died September 6, 2009.

He is preceded in death by his eldest son, Kenneth, who passed in October of 2008 and left him broken hearted.

He is survived by his wife, of 60 years, Evlynn Ann Murphy of Lake Monticello. He also leaves behind his three beloved children, Debbie, T.J and his wife, Mary, and Donald and his wife, Karen; 11 grandchildren, Kim and David Of Dallas, Texas, Brian and Kevin of Crofton, Maryland, Allison, Christopher, Caroline and Michael of Merrick, New York, Rebecca of New Orleans, Lousianna, and Rachel of New York, New York; and his first grandchild, Kerry Murphy-Hammond and her husband, John, of Columbia; and one great-grand-daughter; Delaney Hammond.

He is also survived by four nieces and one nephew, notably Judi Chrysanthis of Mineola, New York and Nancy David Tranchet of Geneva, Switzerland.

Mr. Murphy was a veteran of World War II, having served on a PBY in both the Atlantic and the Pacific. He was awarded the distinguished Flying Cross and three air metals. He and his wife moved to Lake Monticello from Woodside, New York in 1989.

A visitation will be held from 4 until 7 p.m. Wednesday, September 9, 2009, at Sheridan Funeral Home, Kents Store.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, September 10, 2009, at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church at Lake Monticello. Interment will follow 2 p.m. at the Culpeper National Cemetery.

Sheridan Funeral Home, Kents Store, is in charge of the arrangements.

Ms. Murphy,
I know that this has been a hard time for you and you family. Just know that he's in a much better place. The Lord will make a way for yoou and your family. If I can help any way just let me know. My prayer will be with you and your family.

Dear Grandpa,
