William Emmons Lloyd Jr.

William Emmons Lloyd Jr. died Tuesday, September 1, 2009, in Los Angeles, California.

Mr. Lloyd, an attorney in private practice, was born in Richmond, June 13, 1944, and lived his adult life in Virginia and California.

He was preceded in death by his father, William E. Lloyd Sr. He is survived by his mother, Alice Roberta Hannah Lloyd of Pasadena, California, formerly of Palmyra; and his siblings, Hannah Lloyd of Roanoke, John Lloyd of Charlottesville, and Frank Lloyd of Los Angeles, California. He is also survived by his children, Jennifer Davis of Cincinnati, Ohio, Josena Turcotte of Coral Springs, Florida, Jason Lloyd of Matthews, North Carolina, Jeannine Falk of Kansas City, Kansas and Danielle Lloyd of Bethesda, Maryland. There are nine grandchildren, four nieces and a nephew, as well as 10 first cousins.

Mr. Lloyd graduated from the University of Virginia in 1967 with a degree in chemical engineering. While working with patent law firms in Northern Virginia, he completed requirements for the juris doctor degree at American University. He practiced law in Virginia and California for more than 30 years.

A member of many families, he was unfailingly loyal and readily available to others for conversation and consultation. As a child, he liked football and baseball, developed an interest in the sciences, and willingly argued nearly any issue. As an adult, he enjoyed his childhood and college days in Virginia, driving Jaguars, drinking fine wine, and bicycling. He looked out for others more than he looked out for himself, anticipated building a home in Fluvanna, and told his relatives that he wanted to be buried in a pine box after an extended party.

His life will be celebrated 1 p.m. Saturday, September 12, 2009, at a graveside ceremony, when he will be interred at Lyles Church, Wilmington, near many relatives.

Sheridan Funeral Homes is handling arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, the children suggest donations in honor of William E. Lloyd to LiveStrong Lance Armstrong Foundation.

Remember when you saw your dad as a tower of strength who would reach down and take your hand and make you feel loved and secure? Now that his soul has journeyed on, I take comfort in knowing that he is still here for me....he's just reaching down from greater heights....I love you daddy...
