Russell Ferrey Obituary

Ferrey, Russell Harrison
Atlanta, GA: Russell Harrison Ferrey, chemist, teacher, loving husband and father, died July 10, 2008, at his home in Atlanta, Georgia, with his wife by his side. He was 91. Mr. Ferrey was born in Cleveland, Ohio, the son of Helen Russell and Harry Longshore Ferrey. He lived in Burlington, Ontario, Canada, until he left to attend the Virginia Military Institute in Lexington, Virginia graduating with a degree in Chemistry. Mr. Ferrey served as an Officer in World War II in the Pacific Theater stationed at Port Moresby, New Guinea and Palo, Leyte. Upon discharge, Mr. Ferrey returned to Eastman Kodak Company where he worked as a research chemist until 1960. At that time, he began teaching mathematics in the Fairfax County, Virginia and Dare County, North Carolina schools.
Mr. Ferrey first married Elizabeth Spencer Page, who predeceased him. He is survived by his wife Dorothy W. Gibson-Ferrey, three children, Dayl Ferrey Reid-Roberts, Spencer Page Ferrey, Elizabeth Ferrey Godburn, two step-children, Diane Callahan, and Thomas Harris Gibson III, seven grandchildren, Deborah Reid Brash, Patricia Reid Strong, M. Stephen Reid, James O. Tucker, Gwendolyn Elizabeth Tucker, John Russell Tucker, and Cathrine Megan Ferrey. A grandson, D. Alan Reid predeceased him. He is also survived by three step-grandchildren, Wendy Healan, Emily Gibson, Graham Gibson, and eleven great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held Tuesday, July 15, 2008 at 1 p.m. at H.M. Patterson & Son Spring Hill Chapel. Inurnment will be at a later date in Arlington National Cemetery.

Dear Spencer & Rachael,
We are so sorry for the loss of your Dad. What an interesting life he had! It is truly a blessing, and perhaps some comfort for you, that he had 91 years on this earth to share his many talents! Still, it is so hard to lose a parent. God bless you and all your family. You are in our thoughts and our prayers.
