Gregory Bartus Obituary
West Irondequoit: Peacefully at home in the arms of his loving family July 16, 2008, at age 37. Gregg is survived by his loving wife of 4 years, Kelly; the apple of his eye his daughter, Alexandra 2 1/2; parents, Joseph and Sandra Katra Bartus; brother, Ted (Joan) Bartus; 3 cherished nephews, Joey, Will and Owen; parents-in-law, Michael & Kathy Gormley; sister-in-law, Shannon (Eric) Budin; brothers-in-law, Michael and Patrick Gormley; godsons, Joey Bartus and Ryan Dailor. Gregg was a loving and thoughtful man who cherished his family and friends and was deeply concerned about how his illness impacted them. Gregg was a 1989 Graduate of Penfield High School, a graduate of Cornell University and the University of San Diego School of Law. Gregg was employed as an attorney with the Monroe County Conflict Defenders Office. It was greatly important to Gregg to practice law with skill and compassion with an emphasis on protecting the rights of the poor.
Friends may call at Jennings, Nulton & Mattle Funeral Home, 1704 Penfield Rd., Saturday 4-7 PM and Sunday, 2-4 & 7-9 PM. Gregg's Funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday, 10 AM at St. Joseph's Church, 43 Gebhardt Rd., Penfield. Interment, White Haven Memorial Park. Those wishing may contribute to Lifetime Care Hospice or the National Brain Tumor Foundation in Gregg's memory. Addtionally an Education Fund has been established for Ally. Bartus Family, We are saddened by the loss of Gregg but hold on to the thought that he is no longer suffering and is at peace. I hope that Sandy and Joe realize the gift they've given their son....the sacrifices made as parents so Gregg could feel so much love and comfort...it's immeasureable. What a loss! I was really shocked, I had just started getting back in touch with him last year through e-mail! Our whole family extends their thoughts and prayers to the entire Bartus family. When such a wonderful man at such a wonderful age passes as Gregg did, no words can express the sorrow. It practically leaves you breathless which only tears can cure.

I am sorry to hear of Gregg's passing. I will always remember Gregg as charismatic, particular and caring. He held himself to the highest standard, yet still offered a hand or advice to those of us who did not. I had great times and laughs with Gregg and will always remember him. Dear Sandy and Joe: I have kept you and all Greg's family in prayer since I first learned of his relapse. I will still remember the two little guys who shoveled my driveway as part of a confirmation project. It is often difficult to know why God takes from us such a young gifted man, but somewhere I read that He looks at His garden Earth and picks the most precious plant to take Home. Kelly--a wife's love is forever. Hold him close to your heart and when things are tough--look at Allie, she will say it all. Joe, often a fathers love is overlooked, but with you and Greg is was timeless and forever. Your strength and commitment to your son is something I rarely see. Hang strong. I have been honored for with the privilege of calling Gregg family for 37 years. During his life Gregg was a son, brother, cousin, friend, student, uncle, defender of the weak and unprivileged, husband, and father. His love and talents will be missed by many.
