Rochester: July 20, 2008. Survived by her daughter, Cynthia (Darlene) Lucas (Bobby Taylor); one granddaughter, Tamyka (Punkin) Lucas of Rochester, NY; mother, Precious (Candy) Cooper; two sisters, Louise (Cannonball) Cannon and Betty Jean Grey; one brother, Willie Lee (Junior) Cooper, all of Jacksonville, FL; Mamie's long time companion, John Spiva of Rochester, NY; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and friends.
Calling hours, Friday 6-9 PM at Metropolitan Funeral Chapels, Inc., 109 West Ave. Funeral Services, Saturday 11 AM at Peace Baptist Church 6-8 Oregon St. Rev. T.C. Smith officiating. Interment, Riverside Cemetery.

I STARE INTO THE MIDNITE SKY, AND BRUSH THE CLOUDS AWAY, SEARCHING FOR THE LIGHT KNOWING YOUR JUST A STAR AWAY. WAITING TO HEAR THAT VOICE TO GUIDE ME STRAIGHT, BUT HUMBLY EXCEPTING THAT YOUR IN A BETTER PLACE. YOU'VE KEPT ME STRONG THROUGH LIFES LONG JOURNEY, RAISED MY HEAD WHEN OTHERS TRIED TO BURRY. AND ENDLESS LOVE NO ONE CAN TAKE. I'LL SEE YOU AGAIN, I'LL JUST HAVE TO WAIT. GONE BUT NOT FORGOTTEN, MY PAIN WILL COME TO AN END. YOU WERE NOT JUST MY GRANDMOTHER, YOU WERE ALSO MY FRIEND.

Although we were a family apart, I felt the love you had for your Mother and Grandmother. I am so glad I got a chance to see my Mother-in-Law before God sent for her. Now she is at peace. God Bless my baby Tamyka and Darlene.

dear family my name is diane houston-smith i met mamie in the 1980's when i came into the floyd family. mamie was a very nice person i really enjoyed talking with her when are paths would cross especially at the bowling alley or at the beauty shop her smile was a beautiful one,and that is what i will always remember her by. I appoligize for not being there in person to deliver these words from my heart but at this difficult time may god bless you and know that you all are in my prayers.

Grandma,
You will be truly missed, you are my life. You gave me strength when I was weak, you always had encouraging words and you always understood me and we had a bond that no one could ever have broken. The person I am today I give that all to you. Your grandbaby is going to be alright knowing that you are in a much better place now. Me and mommy will meet you on the other side grandma. Just be patient. I will make sure that I be strong for mommy and be there for her as you would've been.
