George Spencer Obituary

Spencer, George Hollister
Topsham, Maine: Age 93 on July 22, 2008. Mr. Spencer was born in Rochester, New York in 1914. He graduated from Harvard College and Harvard Business School. He worked in advertising in Rochester and New York City and was Assistant Dean of Admissions at Columbia Business School. Later in life, he moved with his family to Arizona where he received his doctorate in Business Administration from Arizona State University. He returned to Rochester and taught business administration and management at the Rochester Institute of Technology for 12 years. Upon his retirement he was designated a Professor Emeritus. He served as a Communications Officer, Lieutenant (jg) in the US Navy during World War II and was commended for his service during the Invasion of Normandy. He is survived by one daughter, Elizabeth Spencer Adams of Yarmouth, Maine and 3 sons, George H. Spencer, Jr . of New York City, Robert C. Spencer of Camden, Me, and Eliott F. Spencer of Rochester, NY; 15 grandchildren & 12 great grandchildren.
Services were held at St. Paul's Episcopal Church on Nantucket where he had summered and lived for many years. He was laid to rest alongside his wife of 62 years, Elizabeth Calihan Spencer, also from Rochester and their son, John.
