Linfoot, Ruth Louise (Greene)
Geneseo: Ruth Louise Greene Linfoot of Geneseo, NY died August 17, 2008, at the age of 101. She was predeceased by her husband, Frank Benjamin Linfoot in 1967; daughter, Donna Linfoot Dewar; grandson, John Forsythe Hoffman; great grandson, Matthew Thomas Mitchell; 2 sons-in-law, Robert Dewar and Carl Hoffman Jr.; 2 sisters, Helen Greene Clark and Mary Greene Matthew. She is survived by a daughter, Barbara Linfoot Hoffman, Sewickley, PA and a son, John P. (Debra ller) Linfoot.Sr., Geneseo; 10 grandchildren, Darcy (Patrick) Dewar Lynch, Geneseo, David (Karen Haley) Dewar, Geneseo, Karen (Frank) Dewar Mitchell, Woodbridge, VA, Carl F, Hoffman III, Charlotte NY, Wendy (Peter) Hoffman Burchfield IV, Berwyn PA, Patricia (Dana) Linfoot Stallins, Lakewoo(l CO, John (Pam Cartwright) Linfoot Jr, Geneseo; William D. Bruckel, Geneseo; Madelyn H. Bruckel, Geneseo, and Anna V. Bruckel, Geneseo; 8 great grandchildren, Michael and Kelly Lynch, James and Kathryn Dewar, Geneseo; Kimberly and Kevin Mitchell, VA; Peter Burchfield V, PA and William Levings, CO; and 2 sisters, Alice (Shelton) Greene Reed, Kingsport, TN, and Margaret Greene Kindig, Rochester, and many nieces and nephews. The eldest daughter of Floyd Griswold and Bessie Denny Greene. Ruth graduated from The University of Rochester and taught French and Latin in Geneseo and area schools for many years until she retired in 1980. She organized the first Girls basketball team in Geneseo High School 1928. She was a member of St. Michael's Episcopal Church since 1931. Participating in Civic Activities, She was on the American Red Cross Board for 15 years, a Charter Member of the Geneseo Garden Club in 1967, a leader of Girl Scout and Boy Scout Troops, a member of APOG of Geneseo and the Genesee Valley Council of the Arts. At SUNY Geneseo she was a Charter Member of the Board of Directors of the Geneseo Foundation in 1971 and served as Vice President of the Board. She was inducted into the SUNY Geneseo Sports Hall of Fame in The Legends Category and was recognized for her many activities by being awarded the Geneseo Foundation Meritorious Service Award.
At Ruth's request there will be no calling hours. A Memorial Service will be held at St. Michael's Episcopal Church in Geneseo at the convenience of the family. Internment will be in Temple Hill Cemetery in Geneseo. Remembrances may be made to the Geneseo Foundation, 1 College Circle, Erwin 202, Geneseo, NY 14454, Temple Hill Cemetery Assoc., 81 Main St., Geneseo, NY 14454, St. Michael's Church, 23 Main St., Geneseo, NY 14454 or Christ Church at Grove Farm, Duff Rd. Sewickley, PA 15143.
