Joyce was such a fantastic person who knew so much about education and truly cared about her students. Her honesty, humor, and encouragement will be greatly missed by all of us at Elmira College. I know that she touched many, many lives in a huge way.

I cannot express enough, the impact that Joyce had on me. Joyce pushed me to work hard and come out of my “shell”. Joyce was strong and stood up for what she believed in. Her passion for teaching was always evident. She inspired me and for that I am a better teacher. I will truly miss you, but I will never forget you. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

It is hard to find the words to even write in this guest book. Joyce, I can never thank you enough for everything you have shared with me and what I learned. Shine down on me and provide me with the strength, courage, and determination that you have shown all of us.

I thank God, every day, for giving me the gift of a relative, such as Joyce H. Thompson Smith!! We grew up together, more like sisters, than "just cousins" and presently my heart is broken....
I will forever cherish the happy memories we shared and never will I forget her delightful sense of humor, her honesty, friendship, love, and genuine compassion for others.
Until we meet again, 'Cuzzin Joyce'

It is hard to find the words to describe how much Joyce was loved and admired by her students. For most of us, Joyce was the kind of teacher who has made lasting impressions that we'll take with us throughout our careers. She taught us life lessons in the importance of hard work, ethics, and professionalism but we all saw first hand that compassion and a listening ear are just as powerful. To answer your question, Joyce, Yes, above all else, I want my children to grow up to be good people. Thank you. You have been inspiring and I will miss you terribly.

In loving memory of a wonderful person. We will miss you always. You were always able to cheer up my day here in the basement. The terrace jokes kept me going through all the late nights when I had class.
