Vardabash, Gabriel F. (Gabe), "Mayor"
Lyons: Aug 20, 2008. Survived by his wife of 36 years, Betty Jane Mullins Vardabash; 2 sons Louis (Krista) of Fairport; Gary of Rochester; 2 step-daughters,Toni Prutzman & Linda Parker of Lyons; 7 step-grandchildren; 2 step-great-grandchildren; 3 sisters, Lou Cerio & Rose Sollene of Geneva, Louise Cook of Canandaigua, sister-in-law, Louise Petrus of Lyons. Predeceased by his first wife, Mae Petrus Vardabash in1966; sisters, Laura, Daisy, Elizabeth, Dolly, Lena; brothers, Frank, Patrick & James; many loving nieces and nephews. Gabe served as a Village of Lyons Trustee from April 1956 to March 1966, & Mayor of Lyons from April 1985 to March 1997. He ran a grocery store for 30 years. He also worked at Losons in Lyons for 15 years. Served in the Army from April '42 to September '46 in the 204th Battalion. He was a longtime Democrat and served on the Town & County level. He was citizen of the year in 1992. Member of the VFW & American Legion & Lyons Fire Dept.
Friends may call Friday, 2-4, 6-8 at Boeheim - Pusateri Funeral Home, 77 William St., Lyons. Funeral Mass Saturday 10 AM St. Michaels Church, Lyons. Burial in Elmwood Cemetery with full military rites. Memorials to the Lyons Fire Dept.
