Joseph Marcoccia Obituary

Marcoccia, Joseph, Sr.
East Rochester: August 29, 2008. Predeceased by parents Vespasiano and Edith and brother Peter Marcoccia. He is survived by his wife and best friend of 51 years, Antoinette; children JoAnn (Dan) Kuhman, Joseph (Tina), Anthony (Sheila) and Steven (Sarah) Marcoccia; 10 grandchildren; 3 sisters, Mary Ann (Warren) Lasher, Theresa (Philip) Caito & Anna Robertson; brother Michael. Several nieces, nephews and cherished friends.
Joe graduated from East Rochester High School in 1951 with, in his words, "One of the best classes ever". Upon graduation he joined the US Air Force. In 1955 Joe attended Geneseo College, after which he joined John Hancock as an agent. He married Antoinette Coccia on June 15, 1957. He was promoted to Assistant District Manager in 1960, which brought a move to Niagara Falls. In 1969, Joe and his family returned to East Rochester. He received his NYS Insurance Broker License in 1973 at which time he open his insurance office.
In 1974, he became Public Relations Director for the Town & Country Dinner Theatre handling all the in-town arrangements for many well known entertainers such as Jerry Lewis and Tom Jones; a job he thoroughly enjoyed.
Joe's first love was the game of golf. He remembered vividly caddying at the age of 8 at Midvale Country Club earning 25 cents and running home as fast as he could to celebrate. It was then and there that he fell in love with the game. He caddied throughout high school, while at the same time honing his own golfing skills. His claim to fame in the sport came when he qualified for the US National Junior Amateur Championship in Ann Arbor, MI. Joe loved comedy and in particular, people who were blessed with a good sense of humor.
Private interment at White Haven Memorial Park For those wishing, please consider honoring Joe with a donation to the Pluta Cancer Center.
The family would like to thank the Staff at VNS for their care and kindness shown to Joe.
