Dear Evans Family and Sue,
Jack was almost "bigger than life". I first got to know him when I became Supervisor in 1986. He was still serving on the Planning Board then, but it wasn't until he gave me his "Grand Tour" that I really began to truly appreciate his generosity and philanthropic spirit. He was genuinely excited to show me his converted Hemlock school building, the park on Honeoye Lake that now bears his name, the Velmex facility. He shared his personal story and his love of basketball. A few years later, he gave me some copies of his written stories, which I still treasure. We talked about our respect for our alma mater, the University of Rochester. I never got to sail on Lake Ontario with Jack, an opportunity I regretably missed.
Jack was a benefactor to both his "hometown" (Hemlock/Honeoye) and to his "adopted" town of East Bloomfield. Both communities owe Jack Evans a tremendous amount of gratitude. He will be truly missed, but always treasured!
