Eloise Jean "Lois" Brower

Eloise Brower Obituary

Brower, Eloise Jean "Lois" (Hutchinson)
Williamson: Passed away peacefully at age 85, on September 26, 2008. Lois was born December 8, 1922, to Arthur and Lucille Hutchinson, and grew up in Williamson. She graduated from Williamson Central School in 1940, and from Syracuse University with a B.S. in Speech & Psychology, Summa Cum Laude. After graduation, she worked for IBM until marrying Charles Eugene "Gene" Brower in 1948. Together, they raised three children, Bonnie (Robert) LaFond of Superior, WI, Christopher of Pultneyville, Peter (Lisa) Brower of Williamson. Lois loved being with her three grandchildren, Kyle (Becky) Massey of Milwaukee, WI, Lindsey and Peter (P.I.) Brower of Williamson.
Lois' love of music, tennis, sailing and Keuka Lake were instilled in all her children and grandchildren. Music was always woven into every aspect of her life. She was an accomplished pianist and organist, and her musical accomplishments were many. She was Jr. Choir Director at the Williamson Methodist Church for many years, as well as founder and director of their Bell Choir. She was a puppeteer and performed at many local nursing homes, schools and churches with her handmade puppets and puppet theater. For many years she directed several Williamson Central School Broadway musicals, including playing "Mame" in the production of the same name in 1976. She established a drama award for graduating seniors, and was the commencement speaker at WCS in 1973.
Lois' summers were spent at her home on her beloved Keuka Lake, playing the organ every Sunday at Garrett Memorial Chapel. Her service to her community included: Pultneyville Players, Apple Blossom Committee (1954 - 1973), Red Cross Blood Mobile, AFS Committee.
Lois' love of music followed her to North Port, FL, when she became a "snowbird" in 1980. She wrote and directed two musical productions per year, getting lots of people from her gated community involved in the shows. Her shows always drew a large following.
Lois is survived by her children, grandchildren, her sister Helen Engleson, nieces, Diane Nash, Michelle Heuer and nephew Phillip Engleson and their children and grandchildren. The Brower Family will be forever grateful to the wonderful caregivers at Wolk Manor and to the loving and caring staff at Maplewood Nursing Home who took such exceptional care of her. Lois brought joy and laughter to everyone who she was privileged to know. Her love is irreplaceable and will be in our hearts forever. Donations can be made in her memory to the Alzheimer's Association of Rochester, 435 E. Henrietta Rd., Rochester, NY 14620. A Memorial Service to celebrate Lois' life will be held at the Williamson United Methodist Church, Main St., at 7 PM Tues. evening, Sept. 30th. Arrangements have been entrusted to Young Funeral Home, Williamson.

Dear Chris, Bonnie, and Peter,
I wanted to send my sympathy to you all on the passing of your mom. What I remember most about Lois was her smile and how she would come by the Concierge desk and give me a hug. I just wanted to let you know you all are in my thoughts and prayers.

Bonnie, Chris and Pete,

I was so sorry to hear of your loss--via former Williamson student Carolyn Woodward, whom I've not seen in decades. As you know, your mom and I corresponded regularly until the mid 1980s when she deepened her ties to Florida and I was settling in the midwest.

Now that I teach musical theater at Ohio State University, I use what she taught me weekly. I can think of few individuals who have touched so many, many people in so many ways.

My prayers are with you.

Bonnie and family,
Your mom sounded like a wonderful person I would have loved to have known. Please accept my sympathies...I know how hard it is to lose your mom, even though you know they are in a much better place. God bless you.

Bonnie and family,
I know the death of your loving Mother is bittersweet. As much as you loved her, it was her time to depart this world. Your Mother leaves behind a legacy of love and many memories. I hope it's the memories that will help you and your family through this sorrowful time.
