James Laurito Obituary

Laurito, James John
Rochester, NY and Moon Township PA; James John Laurito 91, passed away peacefully on September 29, 2008. Born January 31, 1917, in Patton, PA, he was the son of the late Philomena and Augustino Laurito, brother of Theresa, Angelo, Patrick and Frederick, all deceased. He is predeceased by his loving wife of 52 years, Helen V. Laurito. He is survived by his loving son, James P. Laurito, daughter-in-law VaNita Sheffler Laurito and grandson Tyler James Laurito. He is also survived by his oldest sister Josephine Lanoy. Nephews Joseph Lanoy, wife Karen and son Jason. Timothy Laurito, wife Tina, son Brian, and daughters Chelsea and Alyssa, Gary Laurito. Sister-in-laws Althea Laurito and June Laurito and his extended family Lee and Gary Sheffler, Crissie and Gary Sheffler, son Ryan, and daughter Megan, Leann and Bob Schoeppner and daughter Anna, Kevin and Peggy Gallagher. He is also survived by many special friends including the Lepores, Lamarks, Roncones and the Gallaghers of Moon Township.
Jim attended Patton High School and St. Francis College. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII, in Panama and the Galapagos Islands as a medic. He had a long and prestigious 47 year career with Neville Chemical Company as a chemist and director of research and development. His work resulted in numerous patents in the field of resins and inks. He was a lifelong member of many civic organizations including the American Legion, VFW and the Fraternal Order of Eagles. He was an avid vegetable gardener all of his life and a devoted Pirates and Steelers fan.
The family wishes to thank Rosemary Casalbore and Laura Shull his loving aides for their compassionate care as well as his cardiologists, Drs. Imran Chaudhary and Timothy Malins.
Friends will be received at R.D. Copeland INC, 981 Brodhead Rd., Moon Township, PA 15108 on Friday, October 3rd from 2 PM-4PM and 7 PM-9PM. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Saturday, October 4, 2008 at 10:00 A.M. at St. Margaret Mary Church on Sharon Road in Moon Township. Interment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery. Contributions in his memory may be made to Gilda's Club of Rochester, 585-423-9700.
