Our story began in June 1979 when my ex-husband, Bill, and I bought the house across the street. Grandpa Fred and Gram Fern welcomed us into their large, loving family as though we were blood kin. Two months later, we announced the impending arrival of our daughter, Dana. So great was their excitement, one would have thought she was their new baby! I always thought that was so special.
So it was with Gram Fern, love of family and friends was the core of her life. She was always giving of herself in simple ways and with everyday things. Bill use to plow her driveway; she made us many delicious apple pies. She made Dana a rag doll for her first Christmas; it is still cherished, as are our memories of her. I could go on and on.
Dear family, she enriched your lives and you, hers. She proudly told me of your many accomplishments. On the walls of her nursing home room, her life/family was proudly and lovingly displayed; evidenced by the many photos, notes, and cards. Your love sustained her through many painful times: family deaths, broken bones, and the loss of her indepencence. I admire that.
It has been an honor to have Gram Fern in my life. May God continue to keep all of you in his richest blessings and give you comfort.
Sincerely and with love,
