Tim and Connie, be at peace and know that God does not make mistakes and He already knew the day and the hour. Let not your hearts be troubled. Lean not to your own understanding but in all your ways acknowledge the Lord and He will direct your paths. My thoughts and prayers are with you and just know it is okay to shed tears of joy for the time that you did have with Bryce not for the occasion of him being gone. Love you much, cousin Darlene.

Bryce, you are a cousin I never met. Your grandmother Evary is my first cousin. I often saw her at Wegmans Mt. Read store and we would talk for long periods. She would tell me all about you. Her face would light up with such a smile and joy and pride as she spoke of you. She said the two of you had a language or way of communicating that only you two knew. She truly loved you and would do all she could for you. As I looked into your picture here, I see that same pride and joy. To Connie, Tim and the rest of our family, I pray that God will uplift us and keep us during this time of sorrow. My love and prayers, always

Reading the World...for Bryce T.

Driving to the sledding hill
We pass a sign and you say
"Hey, that sign says black people can't mix with white people"
but by the time you get all that said
in your five year old way
we are well past the sign.
I ask if you learned about these
black and white things in school
(it is, after all, near the birthday
of Martin Luther King)
and, "yes" you say, "in school".
"Well", i say, "I'm sure the sign
said something else because
we don't have those crazy
kind of rules anymore but
just to make sure
on the way home
we'll look at that sign again.
Just to make sure".

But on the way home I forget
and choose another route
back to the house
when I remember and
even though I'm tired I
drive back to the street
where you saw the sign
going slowly so that
you can find that sign again
and you do.
It says ONE WAY
with an arrow pointing.
Black letters on a
white background but
it is the same shape and size
I bet
as the signs you've seen
in school
in pictures
above drinking fountains
and lunch counters
and the just-becoming
reader you are
must have read "one" as "only" and "way" as "white"
and maybe you were worried.

So no, the sign did not say
what you thought.
But what, I wonder, do you think about what you've been taught about black and white
not mixing.
I wonder as I watch you
in my rear-view.
Little mocha man
whose skin and hair and lips and heart
are living proof
that black and white
do mix
making miracles
like you.

Sweet Bryce...such an angelic spirit on earth and now you are free to soar with angel wings. I will always treasure our walk along the beach in CT as you looked out on the world with your innocence, your face filled with laughter and light...your questions so insightful, and your lens so pure. You touched our lives forever...

Tim and Connie,
May Bryce's amazing life bring you the strength to endure the pain. We send our prayers, thoughts and love.

I live in Finland and had heard that my uncle John had died and was trying to find out where to send flowers, not knowing which funeral home I was looking at as many as I could find and that is when I saw a young child had died, and I read on, being a mom and grandmother, children are so special to me. I saw your sons video tribute and tears welled up and splashed my keyboard, and yet tears of joy also fell down, he indeed was loved and such a beautiful boy. I am sorry for your sorrow for Bryce, it never goes away. My love to you from why up north in another country far away, Finland. Needless to say, I never did find out where my uncle john was.
