Sennen SanFratello Obituary
Ringwood, New Jersey: Formerly of Batavia, died on Sunday, October 12, 2008 at age 82. brother of Kathryn Gringer, Victor (Carol) SanFratello & Laura Bohm, all of Batavia; also survived by many nieces, nephews, grand and great-grand nieces and nephews. Predeceased by Michael SanFratello, Mary Colombo, Josephine Seamans, Jasper SanFratello, Joseph SanFratello, Grace Curd, Lawrence and John SanFratello. On April 25, 1958, he was ordained a priest of the Franciscan Order in Washington, D.C. and was the only member of St. Anthony's parish in Batavia ordained as a priest in the parish's 100 years of existence. During his 35 years at Siena College, Fr. Sennen taught English, and was the Department Chair of English and the Archivist for the college, retiring in 2005. Fr. Sennen devoted his life to teaching and educating the youth.
His Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday at Ascension Parish - St. Anthony's Church 122 Liberty Street, Batavia. Flowers are graciously declined. Memorials in Rev. Fr. Sennen and I go back many years. We were stationed together in Nara, Japan with the 8th Field Artillery Batallion of the 25th Infantry Division. When I became ill and was hospitalized in Osaka Fr.Sennen (Charlie or "Sandy") was one of two soldiers who visited me regularly in the hospital. --We met again in 1948 at St. Bonaventure. Charlie was picked to edit our 1952 yearbook and he did a remarkable job. We both entered the Franciscan Order in 1952 and were classmates in philosophy and theology. My journey took a different turn in 1970 when I left the Franciscan Order but I shall never forget Fr. Sennen's piety and care and concern for the sick and infirm.
