Sue
My thoughts are with you. If you remember, I had the pleasure of meeting your husband when he brought ice cream, at your request, to a group of seniors meeting in 303 at the Towers. I remember thinking what a kind and helpful husband he must be. "Skippy" has earned his place in history and enriched the world.

Dear Sue,

In 1973, I was lucky enough to be assigned to this Motley Crew at the Police and Fire Training Academy, in a Section named CTP-C. It was the worst, toughest, yet the best section of the City to work, and had the Cream of the Crop assigned there. Billy was a legend at that time, a real work horse, yet would take the time to teach a rookie the ropes, above and beyond the field training officer. I never learned so much so quickly, and felt so much like a member of a family at the same time. Billy was a member of that family, had been and still is.

There is a group of retired work horses down in Ft. Myers Florida who continue to talk about him of all the tireless work he did, of how he made us laugh, and how we missed him when it was time to move on and up in the Department, but our loss was the City’s gain. FYI, some wait to tell the good stories after someone’s demise, we have been telling our stories for a long-long time!

In 1989, Billy met my wife-to-be, Lorri, at our old watering hole, Shield’s, and won her over instantly with his kindness and humor. We later met you too, and I am not sure, but we may share the same wedding anniversary in September. Lorri later became a hospice nurse, and when we moved to Florida, she assisted in the Hospice care of John Wernsdorfer, another CTP-C family member, here in Florida, and did a wonderful job on her own time.

We believe that cancer is not necessarily a curse, as too many lives are snuffed out in an instant without the time to say goodbye. KEEP YOUR FAITH; believe and remember that Jesus gives those that he loves the most, tough tasks, which includes an invitation to come home to Heaven. My Mother also had cancer, and as did number of my friends, and when they approached their disease with this outlook, they knew had time to say goodbye and do many other things they wanted to.

Please keep your faith and remember that we will all be together again, and it is worth the wait. Our real home is not here; the beauty and love we share on earth is just a teaser of what is to come in our real home, Heaven!

One of the nicest things anyone can hear is what others think and thought of their family member, and Billy was a Good Cop, He was an Honest Cop, and a Good Friend.

Billy has only one task, and that is to continue loving you, which is not a task at all. He will be with you and watching over his family.

God Bless You and Your Family,

John & Lorri Jacobs Family

MY DEEPEST SYMPATHY AND HEARTFELT THOUGHTS GO OUT TO BILLY'S FAMILY. HE WAS A COPS COP. I WORKED WITH BILLY ON THE RPD, AND ENJOYED BEING AROUND HIM, HE WAS A GREAT GUY AND A FANTASTIC POLICE OFFICER. I'M SORRY I COULD NOT GET TO HIS WAKE DUE TO THE FACT THAT I JUST HAD SURGERY FOR PROSTATE CANCER AND WAS NOT MOBILE. TO HIS FAMILY MY PRAYERS ARE WITH YOU. I KNOW HE WAS A GREAT HUSBAND AND FATHER AND WILL BE SADLY MISSED.

Sue and Family, Please accept my condolences at Bill's passing. I worked with Bill when he was with the Rochester Police Dept. I was with the Monroe County District Attorney"s Office. Bill was a superior police officer and a outstanding Investigator. His work made my job easier and the results of his work insured a safer community. I am in North Carolina at this time and unable to attend his services. May God hold you and your family in the palm of his hand at this time.

Our Dear Barnes Family, Our lives have been forever enriched because of you all.Susie you and Billy became our neighbors twenty years ago, but then you quickly became our family. Billy shared his gardening advise with me and you shared your daughters with us. I loved being out in the north yard(which we still call the Barnes field) to stop and visit with Billy. We shared many new plans for our yards. We still can look over in the yard and see Billy running back and forth from the shed with a shovel or bucket full of plants. Our lake times will always be treasured, Billy you are someone we just were not ready to let go. We know you know that Kelli, Tori and Susie will always be treasured in our lives. Keep watch over us til we meet again.Love,Kevin and Kimmy
