Martha Tack Obituary

Tack, Martha Ann
Mendon: She loved life and lived it to the fullest, making the world a better place for all who knew her. Martha Ann Tack died October 16, 2007, at her home in Mendon, NY, at the age of 75.
Martha Ann McNichols was born in Dixon, IL, in 1931, the daughter of Doctor William Aurthur and Esther Vedette McNichols. She graduated from Emma Willard School in Troy, New York. While at the University of Indiana, Bloomington, Martha was an active Kappa Kappa Gamma, graduating with a degree in Education. She taught school for one year in California and then married Daniel F. Tack of Pittsford, New York. After a three-year stint in the Air Force, the couple settled in Mendon, New York, where they have lived for most of their 53-years of marriage.
While raising three daughters, Martha managed a full-time volunteer career. After her first daughter was born, she founded and ran the Rush Co-op Nursery School.
A life-long pianist, music was very important to her and she loved volunteering for the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra Children's' Program. For years she worked with the Rochester WXXI PBS Auction and when her daughters became teenagers, she volunteered at Planned Parenthood of Rochester. Martha was one of the original founders of the Rochester Ronald McDonald House. She immediately joined the Board of Directors and became the second President of the House. She was always active and served as second Chairman of the annual ABC Household and Antique Sale benefiting the Ronald McDonald House.
Martha loved nothing better than packing her bags and with her family; she traveled the world - both as a child and an adult. Exploring was her passion.
Martha felt most at home in the Thousand Islands Region where she spent 27 summers in Clayton, New York. She loved and actively supported the Hand weaving Museum, the Antique Boat Museum, the Clayton Opera House and the Community Band.
Martha is survived by her husband, Daniel; three daughters, Elaine Vedette Tack, Linda Prince Tack and Leslie Ann Brown; son-in-law, Ray Brown; and two grandchildren, Mirin Hollon Brown and Spencer Lawrence Brown. She is also survived by a niece, Ashley Hansen of Plano, Texas.
There will be a celebration of Martha's life in Mendon, NY, at the Monsignor Schnacky Community Center at the St. Catherine of Siena Church, 26 Mendon-Ionia Rd. on Monday, October 22nd at 11am. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Rochester Ronald McDonald House Endowment Fund, 333 Westmoreland Dr., Rochester, 14620. In the summer of 2008, the family will hold a celebration of Martha's life at the Clayton Opera House. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Clayton Community Band.

I was so saddened to learn of Martha's death. The past months were a real struggle, but she would not give up; gotng to the Stone Mills event, and appearing at the Rocking River Dance. She will be certainly be missed by the River community.
