WHEN I READ THAT MY DEAR FRIEND MARGARET WHALEN HAD PASSED AWAY, I HAD TO SEND MY CONDOLENCES AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.
I WAS CAUGHT BY SURPRISE ABOUT HER PASSING WHILE READING THE DEMOCRAT AND CHRONICLE ON LINE.
THE NEWS UPSET ME SO VERY MUCH..THAT I COMPLETELY FORGOT TO MENTION A WONDERFUL ANECDOTE ABOUT SWEET MARGARET.
IT SHOWS ALL OF US WHAT A GREAT LADY SHE WAS. MARGARET USED TO WEAR LOTS OF JEWELERY..ESPECIALLY FROM MEXICO.
I WAS 14 YRS OLD, AND I LOVED JEWELERY. I ALWAYS ASKED HER IF I COULD TRY THEM ON. SHE ALWAYS SAID OF COURSE! AND, WOULD LET ME WEAR THEM WHILE THEY VISITED.
WHEN IT WAS TIME FOR HER TO LEAVE, I DID NOT NOT NEED TO BE REMINDED TO GIVE THEM BACK. I WAS JUST TOO HAPPY TO BE ABLE TO SHOW OFF SUCH BEAUTIFUL JEWELERY..EVEN IF IT WAS FOR A LITTLE WHILE.
ONE DAY, SHE WAS WEARING A BEAUTIFUL TURQUOISE BRACELET. SHE HAD BROUGHT IT FROM MEXICO, AND OF COURSE I WANTED TO TRY IT ON. SHE, BEING THE GREAT LADY THAT SHE WAS..LET ME USE IT.
I JUST LOVED THE WAY IT LOOKED ON MY WRIST. THEN, IT WAS TIME FOR HER AND DANIEL TO GO HOME. THEY SAID THEIR GOOD-BYES TO MY PARENTS, AND MY OTHER SIBLINGS.
WHEN SHE WENT TO KISS ME GOOD-BYE I KNEW I HAD TO GIVE BACK THE BRACELET. I WAS TAKING IT OFF..AND TO MY BIG SURPRISE SHE TOOK MY HAND IN HERS..AND SAID, THIS IS FOR YOU. BUT, I SAID NO I CAN'T..THIS IS YOURS. THEN SHE SAID, NOW IT'S YOURS!! I STARTED TO CRY, AND SHE HUGGED ME, AND TOLD ME TO NEVER LOSE IT, AND TO REMEMBER HER EVERYTIME I LOOKED AT IT. I TOLD HER THAT I WAS GOING TO WEAR IT ALL THE TIME, AND THAT I WILL ALWAYS TREASURE IT.
NOW, I AM TERRIBLY SADDENED, BECAUSE I LOST MY FAVORITE BRACELET. THAT SPECIAL GIFT I RECEIVED FROM A VERY SPECIAL LADY. NOW..I WISH I STILL HAVE IT, SO I COULD WEAR IT, AND KNOW SHE WAS SMILING AT ME FROM HEAVEN. MARGARET WILL ALWAYS BE IN MY HEART, AND WILL ALWAYS BE REMEMBERED WITH LOVE. REST IN PEACE SWEET LADY.......

My deepest condolences to all the family of Margaret Whalen.
We met Mr. and Mrs. Whalen in 1959, a year after we moved to Rochester, New York from Puerto Rico. They soon bacame like family members.
My parents who went home with the Lord eight years ago..were always happy to have them in our homes and in our lives. Maragaret helped my mom with English lessons. I became very closed to her too. She always spoke to us about the love of God, and the Scriptures.
I know we were blessed for having the great honor of knowing these two wonderful human beings. For some unexplained reason we lost contact, but I always thought about them with much love. When I saw her Obituary in the newspaper I was overcome with GREAT sadness.
If I had known she was still living in Avon..I would have done my best to visit her. I am now living in Florida, but I have gone to Rochester almost every year to visit my family. I would've loved to see this GREAT LADY one more time. Now she and Daniel will be together with my parents in Heaven, and I have faith that someday I will see them too. I will always treasure the great memories I have of Margaret and Daniel.
Rest in peace...Dear Friend.

Margaret was, as my sister called her, a beautiful woman. I last saw her in August and first saw her approximately two years ago while visiting my Father. She was always smiling. May her soul rest in peace - she is in a better place.
