Pittsford: Formerly of Philadelphia died on October 13 at the Highlands Living Center in Pittsford.
Born on September 13, 1912 in Montgomery, Tobago, British West Indies to Rev. William and Joyce Oehler Allen, Tom spent his early years in Christiansted, St. Croix where his father was the pastor of the Freidenstal Moravian Church. He attended Nazareth Hall Military Academy in Nazareth, Pennsylvania and graduated from the Church Farm School in Exton, Pennsylvania. He married Anne Isabella Steel in 1936. After graduating from Drexel University as a mechanical engineer he worked for the Philadelphia Gas and Electric Company, Publicker Distillers, Catalytic Construction Company and Air Products Corporation prior to his retiring in 1985. He was a member of the Delaware Valley Woodcarvers Association and spent much of his free time carving or "whittling".
He was predeceased by wife, Anne Steel Allen, sisters Marie (Robert) Lancaster and Ester (Tom) Reese, brothers Paul and Reginald (Josephine). He is survived by his daughter, Nancy (Richard) Sprenkle; grandchildren, Richard (Amy) Sprenkle and Jennifer (Dan) Fairfield and great-grandchildren Nathan, Luke and Kurt Sprenkle and Chris and Anna Fairfield.
A memorial service celebrating the life of Tom Allen will be held on October 27 at 4:00 pm at the First Presbyterian Church of Pittsford. Memorial contributions may be made to First Presbyterian Church of Pittsford, 21 Church Street, Pittsford, NY 14534 in his name.
