Dear Amy, Jeffrey and Family,
Today I heard about your mother's passing. I am truly sorry for your families loss. Amy, I don't know if you remember me but I was in your third grade class and your mother was our teacher! Your mother's warm heart and kindess touched my life in so many ways. She was patient, kind, loving, and the encouragement she gave me back then will always be held near and dear to my heart. Your mother was loved and admired by so many and will be greatly missed by all. You and yours are in my heart.
Love and prayers,

The first year Mary came to teach at St. Mary's, I was very lucky to have her as my fourth grade teacher. She has been a strong presence there ever since. I remember being ecstatic when my son had the experience to be in her classroom and enjoy her as a teacher. She was truly a wonderful person! We will miss her. Our thoughts and prayers are with all her family and friends.

The prevailing wisdom among St. Mary's parents over the years has been that your child was in the best of hands when he or she was in the class of one of the "Marys"--at one time, there were four of them. Now, one of our precious Marys is lost to us. Our son Ted, a college sophomore, still counts Mary Cowles as his favorite teacher of all time. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Cowles and Zappia families.
