I'm an original burn nurse opening the unit with Florence in 1974. A caring, giving, devoted nurse

Florence was like an angel. She was so inspiring in her teachings of skin and burn care, was patient, kind, and had such a warm sense of humor. She will remain in my fondest of memories and in my heart forever.

Florence was my role model as a new RN at SMH in 1974.She inspired me to be in the group to open up the new Burn Unit in 1975 and would bring the nurses in OJ while we were in the tub room. Shalom

Florence made my first nursing job on the Strong Burn Unit easier due to her ability to mix joy with learning. Her knowledge of burn care was amazing. She was very approachable and tried to make you figure out answers to questions or solutions to problems. She made me very proud to be a nurse.

I will forever remember Florence's kindess. As a child growing up on Brooklawn she welcomed me into the family's home and shared a warmth that made me feel safe and cared about. She will be missed by family and friends from the old neighborhood.

Florence was instrumental in the care I received, at Strong Memorial Hospital, following my major burn accident of January, 1973. I have often wondered if I would have survived without her taking a leading role in my treatment. She was, indeed, an extraordinary person. I, and countless other burn patients, received better care because of her efforts. She will never be forgotten.
