Wheaton, James M.
Phelps: Age 77, passed away peacefully at home on December 1, 2007. Jim is survived by his wife, Elaine of Texas; children, Noelle (Todd) Overfield of Phelps, Brett (Constance) Wheaton of Canadice, Bruce (Joanne) Wheaton of Bloomfield, Randy (Lynne) Wheaton of Richmond and Deborah (Michael) Sweeney of Bristol; brother, Lee (Dixie) Wheaton of Oklahoma; 6 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; uncle, Carl Gears of NC; aunt, Gloria Wheaton of NC; a niece and a nephew. He was predeceased by his first wife, Kathryn Sloan.
Jim was born Jan. 5, 1930 in East Rochester the son of the late Melvin and Delia Wheaton. He was a graduate of East Rochester High School. Jim moved in 1946 to his father's ranch, the Double Diamond Ranch in Bristol Valley. In 1950 Jim married Kathryn Sloan. During this time in his life he trained horses and competed in rodeos. Jim was a true cowboy at heart. In the 60's Jim drove stockcars and owned and operated Wheaton Auto Salvage on Tilton Rd. in Bristol. In 1969 Jim was married to Elaine Dano. He retired from driving Truck for Polar Express in 1987. Jim enjoyed reading and his trips out west. In his later years Jim was living with his youngest daughter and her husband, Noelle and Todd Overfield in Phelps. Jim will be sadly missed by all of his loving friends and family.
In keeping with his wishes there will be no prior calling hours. Friends are invited to attend a celebration of James's life on this birthday, Jan. 5, 2008 at 2 PM at the Colgate Rochester Crozer Divinity School. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Eacker Funeral Home, Phelps.
