A friend of mine, Tim Hewitt, yesterday, told me about Dave's passing. I had lost contact with Dave in the last 18 years. We played a lot of basketball together in the 80's - 90's and Dave loved basketball and sports and music also.
He was a very smart observer of everything and always made me laugh with his comments on society in general.
I am very sorry that I didn't get a chance to see him more and wish I have know at the time.

I was saddened to hear the news of Dave's passing. He was a good high school friend and we shared many happy times in those "good old days". He was an excellent athlete that made playing any sport look so easy. More recently, I had spent quite a few hours talking with Dave at our 40th class reunion. He shared many of his experiences and thoughts over the course of the evening. His death is a great loss for all those who knew and loved him. My thoughts are with you.
Peace.

Mrs, Whiting, Family and children -
How do I remember my high school buddy Dave Whiting? On the golf course, watching him wind up and smack that "pill" a mile. And what a humbling experience watching him putt! On the ball field, what natural talent. Sitting in his bedroom, listening to Neil Diamond, harmonizing to all the early LPs we could get our hands on. WE wrote the book on what they call today...'just hangin' out'......begging the folks to borrow the car to go cruise Bailey Ave. on a weekend night. Dave was a sage, a philosopher, maybe not doing it right all the time but still, you listened to his wisdom. Dave would literally give you shirt off his back and his last nickel, if he had it. Although careers and distance had kept us incommunicado over the years, the memories and his brilliant smile will always be with those who knew, loved and cared about Dave. I will miss him.........

I was a good friend of Dave's from elementary school on but lost touch with him pretty much after High School. However, I always knew of his goings on and trials and tribulations from his good Amherst friends Steve Hunt and Michael Procknal. I most remember Dave as a terrific athlete where he excelled as a little league home run hitter to an outstanding High School Basketball. I am truly saddened by his loss and know that he will be missed by all that knew him.

Dear Mrs. Whiting, Johanna, Tyler, Bob & Kathy,
Dave has been since 7th grade one of my dearest friends. We just heard with shock tonight of his passing. For all of his troubles, he was a great friend. I'm thankful for our trips to the Aud for college basketball in junior and senior high, all the pick up and league games we played. He was a terrific athlete. I'm thankful for the concerts and movies we went to. But mostly I'm thankful for just the hundreds of conversations we had over 47 years. He was a good listener and an honest, concerned commentor. Since our 40th high school reunion, we'd been meeting monthly with Mike Procknal and Steve Duane for breakfast. We were waiting for him yesterday at the usual place, not knowing what had happened. This leaves a great wound in me. I'll miss him very much. My love to all of you.
