Dear Patti and Tobey,

I came to the field today to give Lizzie some exercise and one of the neighbors told me about Jack. I almost called her a liar...he just couldn't be gone. He was one of the few people in the neighborhood who made me and Lizzie feel welcome. You both did.

My heart is saddened with the thought that we will not see him this summer puttering in the yard, tinkering in the garage or sitting with you on the front porch in the evenings. There is no doubt in my mind that without Jack, the field will certainly turn into a littered mess. I will do my best to keep it tidy, in memory of your wonderful husband.

He and I talked alot and what stands out most in my mind is his concern for leaving you alone Patti. I am sure that Mr. Tobey misses him terribly also.

Please accept my deepest heartfelt condolences. I will miss him. Lizzie will miss him.

I would tell her that we were going to see Jack and she would run to the fence to get some water from him.

If there is anything that I can do, just ask and consider it done.

With saddness, tears and disbelief,

Joann & Lizzie
