To the Engelken Family
This morning, while conducting online research, I came across Larry's passing. I always considered Larry as one of my 5 mentors in my life. I worked for him in Houston at EGT for a few years. He was a great inspirational man. Somewhat late to write but as they say never to late. My thoughts and prayers are with him and family.

We just found out about Larry's passing from a mutual friend. We met Larry professionally when UGC consulted with our company and we knew both of you personally. We spent fun times together, in particular during one of the Snowmass conferences, and we were honored that Larry and you attended our wedding. We enjoyed the times we had together. His smile and laughter were infectious and he was just so much fun to be around. We are thankful to have known and spent time with you both. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

Dear Amanda, John and the Larry Engelken Family,
I talked to Larry only three times in my life - at Amanda and John’s wedding, at a Chiefs Game, and at a business meeting with John. And I remember each of the visits vividly - not for what he specifically said to me - but how he made me feel. His warmth, his smile, and his sincerity were real and I could tell he was this way with everyone. It’s what made him the kind of person people wanted to be around. And through stories I’ve heard from many of you, he was a person who cherished and lived in the moment. Although his life was not long, it was so fortunately full of experience and love. His great spirit lives on through the oneness of all life.

Dear John & Amanda,
It is in times such as these, that we appreciate our family and friends even more. After all, we are just a blink in God's grand scheme of things. We have a little stewardship over the things we think we "own" and then we must pass them on.
We feel it was so providential that you were able to have such fantastic quality time with Larry before he went home. Most people have their father in their lives for decades and yet they are times that are totally devoid of the quality weeks, days and hours you were privileged to enjoy with Larry.
We had a friend the other day, We have him still, though he passed away.
We used to write and call and phone, but now the Lord has called him home.
Now with our thoughts and when we pray, we know he's near every day.
When the wind makes its whispering moan, we know it's Larry's pleasant tone.

I'm so sorry to hear about Larry. I worked for Larry at Convergent Group, and he was a great boss! The last time I saw him was at an Avalanche game a few years back, and he was wearing a giant smile.

Dearest Amanda & John,

In such a time of a tragedy it is a blessing to know that you are all surrounded by such great gifts of love, life, and light: Each Other!! Larry was and is an amazing guy. I worked for Convergent Group in the late 90's through the sale. For over of a year of that time I worked directly for Larry. I have always said that was my best work experience ever and I owe that to Larry. I know he will be truly missed. Please accept my deepest sympathy.

While working for Convergent Group I had the tremendous honor of working with Larry. He was just simply the best to work with and always patient, kind and took all things in stride.
One fond memory is a late night during the time CVG was prepping to be sold. I'd been working with others non-stop on a sensitive project the entire day which began at 5AM. Working at CVG at that time was so incredibly intense and the energies (and sometime tempers!) ran high.
Larry came in the room about 11pm, stopped the others from working and said, "C'mon kid, you need a break." He then led me to his office and pulled out his 'special stash' out of a very elaborate box and proceeded to pour me a drink of the strongest liquor I'd ever (or since!) consumed.
I'll never forget his kindness, that day and so many others. I honestly believe that there was not another person at CVG who was as well-respected as Larry.
I'm so happy for you all that he did have some time to reap and share the rewards of so many years of such hard work from CVG. While the time is never, ever enough, I know that Larry lived and loved abundantly and shared so generously with you and everyone he met.
Kind man, infectious laugh, full of the zest for life. Your years were not long, but you lived them so very well.

The first time we met Larry, he was such a gracious hosts to us as we visited Denver and Boulder with Elaine on a wintry weekend. It was very enjoyable to be in their presence and see the joy they shared. After that visit we noticed how he had a knack for making people smile. As difficult as it is to smile right now, we take refuse in the thought that he’s in a better place, undoubtedly making smiles once again.

I am deeply sorry and saddened by your loss.
I didn't know Larry well enough, but from my perspective I saw a man who treated all people with the same weight. He loved his work whatever, whenever and wherever it took him. He loved to travel and play and share himself with whomever he met, and he both loved and enjoyed his entire family.
These are admirable traits. Most of us need lots of practice with those things, Larry had them refined.
