Margaret Kenney Obituary

Margaret Ericksen Kenney 1921 ~ 2008 Edna Margaret Ericksen Kenney, 87, passed away peacefully August 14, 2008.Born in Salt Lake City on May 16, 1921, she was the fourth of Ephraim Edward and Edna Clark Ericksen's five children. She graduated from East High and Utah State University and married Mont Glen Kenney in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on June 19, l942. They had four children. Margaret was a popular teacher at Beacon Heights Elementary, where she taught for 25 years. After retiring in 1986, she volunteered as a teacher's aid for most of the next 20 years. She also played the organ and took up oil painting. For many years she wrote personalized birthday poems for each child and grandchild and took them on memorable shopping sprees. She loved to travel and out of her teacher's salary took Mont to the far reaches of the world. For their 50th wedding anniversary they took their children and spouses on a Caribbean cruise. Margaret loved nothing more than sharing fun experiences with her family. Naturally cheerful and gregarious, she was a great conversationalist with far-ranging interests and knowledge of current affairs. To the very end she maintained a buoyant spirit and interest in her children's lives. Preceded in death by Mont and brothers, Howard, Stanford, and Sheldon. She is survived by brother, Gordon (Darlene); children, Scott (Susan), Bruce (Jimae), Ann (Brian) Fielden, and Clark (Gaylene) Kenney; 15 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Kenney was my favorite and most memorable teacher. I still remember her taking us to her home and letting us play in her yard during school time. She was such a loving and caring person and teacher.

Aunt Margaret was one of my favorite aunts. She was a wonderful democrate in a family full of republicians. Her zest for life was infectious. One just couldn't be around her and NOT be happy. I loved it when they would stop in at Fillmore on their way to see the world in their little motor home. It was always a wonderful surprise. As a child she gave me my first little sewing machine and I love to think I could sew as well as my mom and sisters on that beloved little machine. She will be greatly missed, but never forgotten. The twinkle in her eyes and her eternal optimism and laugh will be a wonderful memory forever. I know mom, dad and Uncle Mont are glad to have her with them. My love to my cousins and their families. I know how you feel.

Margaret was a special friend of mine. We were special friends from 6th grade on. I was a brides maid at her wedding. Mont had to jump out of the window that night to keep from being kidnapped. Her mom and dad helped me in so many nice ways. I knew Howard. He took me to Farr's for ice cream!

Me and my girlfriends still talk about Mrs. Kenney. She was one our favorite teachers. I went to Beacon Heights from 1967 on to 6th grade. Sorry for your loss, she was a great teacher.
