Heinz Drawe Obituary

Heinz Karl Drawe 1932 ~ 2008 Heinz Karl Drawe, age 76, passed away in Bountiful, Utah, on December 24, 2008, of complications associated with Parkinson's disease. Heinz was born to Wilhelm Gottlieb and Anna Marie Mueller Drawe in Herne, Germany, on April 12, 1932. He grew up during a tumultuous time in Germany and experienced the struggle and heartache of a war-torn country at a young age. Heinz immigrated to Alberta, Canada, at the age of 19 with his good friend Dick Holtkamp and quickly learned to adapt to a new language and culture. He soon met and married his wife, Lorna Hansen. They had six children together and were later divorced. Heinz served in the Canadian Army as a paratrooper and a dental hygienist and with the United Nations Forces in Egypt. After leaving the service, he became a painting contractor. He enjoyed music from a young age and for several years was a member of and soloist with the German Chorus Harmonie. He also sang with the Jay Welch Chorale, where he met his sweetheart Patricia Smith Allred. They were married on June 12, 1981. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple. It was a proud day for Heinz when he became an American citizen. As a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints he served faithfully as a teacher, ward choir member, and devoted temple worker, among other callings. Heinz's hobbies included oil painting, writing poetry, and snow-blowing neighbors' driveways. He liked to collect clocks and music boxes. Heinz was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Lydia; brother, Egon; son, David; daughter, Yvonna; step-daughter, Susan; and granddaughter, Ashley. He is survived by his wife, Pat; sons: Randy Drawe, Albuquerque, New Mexico; Daniel Drawe (Mary), Seoul, Korea; Mark Drawe (Amy), Hurricane, Utah; daughter, Dianna Kearney (Brett), Bountiful; step-son, David Allred (Teresa), Kaysville; brothers: Walter (Trude), Castrop Rauxel, Germany; Harold (Lucie), West Bountiful; Willi, Green River, Utah; sister, Ruth Kunsch, Centerville; sisters-in-law: Cheri Reynolds (Len), and Marcia Merrill; 20 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Heinz asked that many thanks be given to all those friends, neighbors, and ward and branch members who visited him faithfully and helped buoy him as well as Pat through these last few years. Thanks also goes to the vigilant staff of Welcome Home Assisted Living who patiently and kindly cared for Heinz and provided such a comfortable home-away-from-home for him. Appreciation also to Silverado Hospice. Funeral services will be held at the Moss Hill Ward Chapel, 455 South 1200 East, Bountiful, on Tuesday, December 30, 2008, at 11:00 a.m. Family and friends may call Monday evening from 6-8 p.m. at Russon Brothers Mortuary, 295 North Main, Bountiful, and at the chapel from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. on Tuesday. Interment will be at Lakeview Memorial Estates in Bountiful.

Dear Pat,
Ann and I were away when Heinz passed. I am sorry for your loss and please know that our thoughts and prayers are with you. You and Heinz have been and always will be an example to us of a couple in love. I will always remember his wit and humor, and his unique way of sharing his knowledge of the truth to us all. It will always bring a smile to my face and remain in my memory.
God Bless you and know we are here if you need anything.
Love,
Mike, Ann, Matthew, Krichelle, Chaz, and Ladd (Moss Hill Ward)

The staff at Silverado Hospice were privileged to care for Heinz during his last days in this life. I will long remember his old world charm and sly sense of humor as he and Pat talked to me about their years together. May the Lord comfort all of you in the loss of this fine man among you.

Dear Aunt Pat and family,
I loved Uncle Heinze, and I am so grateful that my husband and kids and I were able to visit him when we came to Utah. I will miss him so much. It gives me comfort that we will one day see him and all the rest of our loved ones again some day.
My thoughts, prayers and love are with you Aunt Pat and also with your family.

I always loved Uncle Heinz. I remember the last time that we saw him, he and Aunt Pat lovingly took us into their home and made us feel so welcome. I am honored to know him, and love him so much. Till we meet again...

I'll always remember hearing Grandpa say "C'mere my boy" and following that up with whatever joke, story or lesson he had for me at the time. Christmas time was always special at Grandma & Grandpa Drawe's and this is a very fitting time to celebrate his life.
