Nadine Cook Obituary

Nadine Cook 1930 ~ 2009 Nadine Elise Anderson Cook peacefully passed from this life on March 12, 2009, surrounded by her family. They feel the rejoicing of her husband son, parents and siblings.Nadine was born November 8, 1930, the fourth child of Aldon Joseph and Minnie Evaline Egan Anderson. She loved her brothers Aldon Junior and Lowell, and her sister Elaine Cannon (all deceased). She graduated from East High and attended the University of Utah where she was affiliated with Chi Omega and made many life-long friends. While attending the University Ward she met her future husband, Calvin Clemens Cook. They were married July 14, 1950 in the Salt Lake Temple. She adored Cal and missed him dearly after he passed away in 1982. She was employed at Tracy Collins Bank and then Sterling Wentworth Co. As a dedicated mother she courageously pressed on to leave her children with a legacy of faith and love. Nadine served the LDS Church in many capacities including teacher, Ward Primary and YW President, Stake Primary Counselor and President, and Stake YW Counselor. She gave tours at the Beehive House and loved serving in the Salt Lake Temple. She enjoyed Institute classes and studying the scriptures. The Gospel of Jesus Christ filled her life. Nadine loved family, friends, reunions, genealogy, old movies, and KBYU programs. She could most often be found supporting her children and grandchildren. Friendships made at church, in her neighborhoods, Dinner Group, Study Group, Fort Douglas Club, Cleofan, and Woodland Park Care Center were very precious to her. She seemed to know everyone. Her smiling example as she lived happily and without complaint will forever be etched in our memory. She will be missed by children Kathleen (Richard Johnson), Jonathan (Elizabeth), Elizabeth (Preston Richards), Michelle (Bryce Flake), Julie (Talmage Egan), Richard (Karrie), and Mark (Annika), 39 grandchildren and their spouses, 16 great-grandchildren and sister-in-law Miriam Frost (Lowell) Anderson. She was preceded in death by her husband Calvin, son David Calvin, grand-daughter Rachel Flake. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, March 21, 2009 at 12:00 noon in the Monument Park Stake Center, 1320 So. Wasatch Dr., SLC. Friends may call Friday evening from 6-8 p.m. at Larkin Sunset Lawn Mortuary, 2350 E. 1300 So. and Saturday from 10-11:30 a.m. prior to the service. Interment will be in Elysian Gardens Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the LDS Missionary Fund. The family would like to express gratitude to those who have offered prayers, love and support to Nadine and her family.

Dear Cook Family,
I used to do Nadine's hair at Sherman Kendalls Academy. I did her hair for about a year. She was always so nice, and caring. I was always so happy to see her each week. I gave her her last perm in December right before I graduated. I am very sad, but we all know she is in a better place. Love Melissa Mossberg

Dear Cook Family,

Many years ago your mother opened her home up for the summer at a very early morning hour to a group of your father's seminary students. I was one of those students and have such wonderful memories of being taught in your home. I particularly remember the great love your father had for her and how kindly he always spoke of her. My prayers are with you.

Our prayers are with all the Cook family. What a fabulous example of cheerfulness and caring Nadine radiated. Whenever we saw her at church or at a school function, she made us feel like she truly was interested in our lives. She was so proud of her children and grandchildren. What an amazing family you are! God bless you with all the happy memories.

Dear Cook Family,

All my life I have loved your wonderful mother, and have always been proud to claim her as a favorite relative. Every time I saw her she greeted me with a knowing twinkle in her eye, a warm hug, and charming wit and wisdom. She could have a conversation about anything or anybody. She was a treasure!

To my "Egan" cousins, may God bless you with his Spirit at this tender time. Milestones like this give us pause and sharpen our perspective as we contemplate our own journies. But surely there is great comfort for you in knowing that you follow the in the footsteps of such noble parents.

My wife Wendy, and my entire family embrace you with our love and wish you peace in the days ahead.

Dear Richards Family: Nadine was always so kind, interested, loving and thoughtful. She had a wonderful spirit about her and she lifted everyone she spoke with. We loved and admired her.
Back in 1963, she and Cal called Bill while on his mission in Paris France. They wanted to take him and his companion out to dinner and since they didn't know where to go, asked him to suggest a "nice" place. He asked around and suggested La Tour D'Argent, not knowing that it was probably the most expensive restaurant in the city. Boy were these missionaries embarrassed. Nadine and Cal were so understanding and it has been a source of humor through the years.
May the wonderful memories you hold, of time with her, be a comfort and joy in the days ahead.
Love, Bill and Bonnie Lloyd

Dear Cook Family:
We are so sorry to hear of your mom's passing. My parents visited her earlier this month and were so glad to have been able to see her again.
Your mom had a way of making everyone feel like they were the most important person around. Even though there were hundreds of kids in our neighborhood, I always felt like she knew everything I was involved in. She had a warm, infectious smile that made everyone feel good. She was always so good to my family and we loved her very much.
We have awesome memories of all the Cooks and feel blessed to have been part of your lives. May you feel the peace and love of our Savior now and always.

to the "other" Nadine in my life....could even call you the 2nd neighborhood mom to me. Your daughters were my "big" sisters since I was the oldest. Always loved your sons and appreciated so much all that Cal gave to everyone. You were an amazing woman, wonderful leader, example, teacher, friend and mother to so many more than just your family. We want your family to know how much we loved and admired you. We often see many of the "Cook" kids and see that your legacy lives on in them. Much love and adoration forever.

Dear Cook Family,
Nadine was the best! I was a member of her Primary class in the early 60's. She not only taught the lessons, but she lived them and was always a loving example to me and the thousands she has touched with her life. She would greet me with a hug and that darling warm smile. I will surely miss her. My love to each of you at this sad time.

Dear Julie and Cook family. Years ago you told me about your Dad gathering the family together and giving each of you $100.00 to sit down and listen to his testimony of the gospel. I was so impressed that he knew what it would take for a bunch of teenagers and young adults to take the time to listen to their dad. It was around that time that I met your mom. What an awesome lady. I imagine a joyous reunion between your parents. I'm blessed to know you. I Pray for peace and blessings to be with you all.

Love,
