Philip Farrar Obituary

Philip G. Farrar of Niskayuna, NY, born in Fitchburg Niskayuna, NY Philip G. Farrar, 73, died Thursday, August 21, 2008, at the Guilderland Center Nursing Home. Mr Farrar was born in Fitchburg, MA the son of C. Wallis and Dorothy Garland Farrar. He was a graduate of Fitchburg High School Class of 1953 and Syracuse University with a Bachelors in Business, where he was a member of the Kappa Sigma fraternity. Philip met his wife in Niagara Falls, NY. They moved to California for nearly 4 years where he worked for Household Finance. They moved to the Schenectady area when the opportunity arose to work at Upstate Collection Center, which he later bought and was President and Owner. He was a member of the Niskayuna High School Key Club for 15 years. Philip was a spectator sport enthusiast, especially the Boston Red Sox, New England Patriots, and Syracuse Basketball and Football. He enjoyed spending August days watching horse racing at the Saratoga Race Track. Philip will always be remembered as a loving and caring husband, father, brother and grandfather. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Elizabeth Farrar. His wonderful only daughter Tracey Farrar and her companion Michael Faragon; the light of his life, his granddaughter Elizabeth Farrar Gilson; his sister Nancy Tofferi of Springfield, MA and many cousins, nieces and nephews. FARRAR Funeral services held Monday evening at 6:00 at the Daly Funeral Home, Inc., 242 McClellan St., Schenectady, NY. Memorial contributions may be made to Community Hospice of Schenectady, 1411 Union St., Schenectady, NY 12308. Philip's family would like to thank Community Hospice of Schenectady, Guilderland Center Nursing Home, Nurses and Technicians of Ellis Hospital C-6 and David Nowak for their care provided to Philip.

I was so sorry to hear about the passing of Phil. He was a very intelligent, thoughtful, and all around wonderful husband,dad, and most of all a very proud grandfather. I enjoyed working with him. He always found time to take my call no matter how small or large the problem was.

To the Farrar Family I was sadden to read about Phil's passing. Although it's been many years since we last talked I still have fond memories of talking with Phil at lunchtime at the fryer tuck in Latham in the early 1970's May your love of friends and family carry you through your grief
