Aili Clapp Obituary

Aili Clapp of Conway; 98 Conway Aili (Paananen) Clapp, 98, of Conway died August 14th, 2008, at home. She was born in Fitchburg, MA, November 5, 1909, the daughter of Matti and Hilda (Leponiemi) Paananen. She was educated in Fitchburg schools and graduated from Fitchburg High School and the former Arnold College in New Haven, CT. She later married Roger F. Clapp, Sr., April 2, 1931. They made their home in Plainfield, NJ. During the war they lived in Richmond, VA, moving to Northampton, MA, and on to Conway in 1955. Roger predeceased her December 7, 1998. While in Northampton Aili was a member of the 19th Century Club, St. John's Church. In Conway she was a member of Conway Garden Club and a past member of the Conway Historical Society. Founding member and past President of Board of Organized Work for 35 years at Franklin Medical Center. She is survived by one son, Roger F. Clapp, Jr., of Conway and his wife Joanne, two daughters Sydney C. Ramey and her husband Jack of Conway and Roberta C. Phillips of Amherst. Also 5 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. CLAPP A Celebration of Life will be held Aug. 29th at 11am at her late home, 559 Main Poland Road (Sugar Hill), Conway with the Rev. Kate Stevens officiating. Burial at the convenience of the family. Donations in her memory may be made to the Clapp Anniversary Fund c/o Conway Garden Club, PO Box 13, Conway, MA, 01341 or the charity of one's choice.
