Lauri Albert Lassila

Lauri Albert Lassila formerly of Fitchburg and Ashby, 80 Rindge, NH Lauri Albert Lassila, 80, died September 15, 2008 at Harborside-Pheasantwood in Peterborough. He was born in Veteli, Finland on March 23, 1928, the son of Selma (Aho) and Antti Anselmi. He spent his early years in Finland working on the family farm. Mr. Lassila moved to Baraga, Michigan in 1963, and then moved to Fitchburg, MA in 1965 and settled in Ashby, MA in 1969. He lived in Rindge the last few years with his wife and sons family. Mr. Lassila was employed at Seppala & Aho Construction for twenty-five years as a welder. In his retirement years, he worked at Market Basket in Rindge, NH. His hobbies included power lifting, woodcarving, sculpting, metal work and dancing. Known for his strength, he began competing in power lifting competitions after his retirement and won several titles in his age bracket. He was a member of Revontulet Folk Dancers for over 20 years and was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church in Fitchburg. He is survived by his wife, Pirkko (Anttila) Lassila, a son, Mikael and his wife, Arnelle all of Rindge; two grandchildren, Zachary and Emma Lassila; a sister, Ritva Rikula and a brother, Paavo Lassila, both of Finland. LASSILA The funeral will be Thursday, September 18th, 2008 at 11:00 AM in Messiah Lutheran Church, 750 Rindge Road, Fitchburg, MA, with the Reverend David Batchelder officiating. Burial will follow in Glenwood Cemetery in Ashby. A reception will be held at the church after the burial.
