As Father Dennis Edward O'Brien said, "It is the soldier" who gives us our freedom of the press, freedom of speech, and freedom to demonstrate.

The soldier salutes the flag, serves beneath the flag, and has his/her coffin draped by the flag, so protesters may burn the flag.

We salute you Uncle Ed, and all who served with you, for allowing us these freedoms. God Speed, Major!

Our lives are intertwined like the falling leaves. We are all separate, but one because we come from the same tree. Today, we grieve with you because of you loss and for all of the leaves that have fallen from our tree in seasons past.

Who would have ever thought that one day we would come to say, “We will miss his stories.”

“God Speed Uncle Ed”
