Deborah McCarthy Obituary

Deborah McCarthy of Florida, formerly of Lunenburg; 57 Fernandina Beach, FL Deborah McCarthy, 57, of Fernandina Beach, died on Friday, October 10th, at Shands Jacksonville Hospice after a short illness. Deborah Louise Page McCarthy was born in Lunenburg, onAugust 25th, 1951.She was the daughter of Shirley Quinn, of Fernandina Beach, and the late Norman Page, of Lunenburg.She graduated from Lunenburg High School in 1969. Though she moved to Florida in 1982, Mrs. McCarthy remained active in the Lunenburg High School Alumni Association throughout her life. Mrs. McCarthy was a Dean's List student at Florida Community College Jacksonville, where she earned an A.A. degree in 1988.She also attended Northeastern University in Boston. She married her teenage sweetheart, Daniel McCarthy, in 1977.Their first son, Sean, was born in 1979 and their second, Ryan, in 1983. Mrs. McCarthy was strong supporter of the Amelia Island Montessori School.A dynamic volunteer, she devoted countless hours to the school during her children's enrollment. Everyone who met Mrs. McCarthy liked her and found her enthusiasm contagious. That was never more apparent than in her support of the Jacksonville Jaguars. She was an original season ticket-holder and always enjoyed attending their games. She was full of life, loved celebrations and was locally renowned for her annual Super Bowl and Christmas parties. Another of her great joys was traveling. As a young woman, she backpacked through Europe for a summer.She adored visiting familyand friends in Massachusetts, California, New York, and England. She was a frequent cruise ship passenger and also delighted in boating on the Intra-coastal. Mrs. McCarthy was a member of St. Peter's Episcopal Church. In addition to her husband, two sons, and her mother, Deborah McCarthy is survived by her sisters, Nancy Roszell and Elisabeth Page; a brother, Donald Harley; her stepfather, Francis Quinn; and her father-in-law, Daniel McCarthy. Other survivors include, her almost daughter in law, Erin Hable; an uncle, James Wicks; her aunts, Arlene Wicks, Valerie Wicks,and Elisabeth Page; a sister-in-law, Karen Pompei; a brother-in-law, William McCarthy; three nieces, two nephews, several cousins, and themany, many friends who will miss her dearly. MCCARTHY Funeral services will be held at St. Peter's Church, 801 Atlantic Ave, Fernandina Beach, FL on Friday, October 17th, at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be at a later date in Lunenburg. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests honoring Deborah McCarthy by making a donation in her memory to either St. Peter's Episcopal Church, or the Amelia Island Montessori School, 423 Julia Street, Fernandina Beach, FL 32034.
