Roger L. Plante

Roger L. Plante formerly of Winchendon, Navy vet, WWII; 87 WESTMINSTER Roger L. Plante, 87, of Westminster, formerly of Winchendon, died Thursday morning, October 30th, in his residence, with his loving family at his side. He was born in Willamantic, CT, on March 23,1921, the son of the late Joseph A. and Mary Rose (Dumais) Plante, and lived in Winchendon many years ago, and then resided on Cape Cod for 30 years, before returning to this area. Roger was a custom upholsteror all his life, and worked at Winchendon Custom Upholstering in Winchendon for 25 years, Marcoux Upholstering in Leominster, and Ed Price Custom Upholstering and Decorating in Harwich until his retirement in 2002. He enjoyed antique cars, boating and quahogging on the Cape. He especially enjoyed family cookouts, vacations, and time spent with his family. Roger proudly served in the United States Navy during World War Two in the Pacific, where he received the Asiatic-Pacific Medal, American Area Medal, American Defense Medal, World War Two Victory Medal and Good Conduct Medal with 1 star. His wife of 62 years, Hazel Mae (McCloskey) Plante, died in 2007. He leaves four children, Jeannette Herr and her husband, Donald of Westminster, Roger Plante and his wife, Lois of Winchendon, Richard Plante and his wife, Bonnie of Westminster, and Thomas Plante of Harwich; 11 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and many nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by sisters, Annette Rushia, Beatrice Hunt, Lucy Leclair, and a brother, Joseph Plante. PLANTE Military funeral services will be held Tuesday, November 4th at 11 A.M. in the Massachusetts Veterans' Memorial Cemetery, 111 Glenallen St., Winchendon. The Rev. Jackson L. Williams will officiate. Calling hours will be held Monday, November 3rd form 6 to 8 P.M. in the Snow-Ladeau Funeral Home, 343 Central St., Winchendon.
