Robert J. Schmitt avid Red Sox and Patriots; 39 Fitchburg Robert J. Schmitt, 39, died Sunday, November 9, 2008 in his home, after a brief illness. He was born in Shirley, on May 8, 1987, a son of the late Daniel L. Schmitt, who died in 2002. Mr. Schmitt was presently employed at Marathon Staffing in Leominster. He previously was employed at the Ashburnham, Ashby, Harvard and Fitchburg State College Campus Police Forces. He was a member of St. Bernard's Parish in Fitchburg, was a 1987 graduate of St. Bernard's Central Catholic High School and attended Fitchburg State College. He was avid Red Sox, Patriots and Bruce Springsteen fan. He leaves his mother, Katherine M. (Buckley) Schmitt; one brother David L. Schmitt and his wife Kathryn, of Stuttgart, Germany; one sister, Mary Katherine Schmitt of Fitchburg; nieces and nephews, Ben, Megan and Kiersten Schmitt, all of Stuggart, Germany; and several aunts, uncles and cousins. SCHMITT His funeral will be held on Friday, November 14, from the Smith-Mallahy-Masciarelli Funeral Home, 243 Water St, Fitchburg, with a Mass at 10am in St. Bernard's Church, 240 Water St, Fitchburg. Burial will follow in St. Bernard's Cemetery, Fitchburg. Calling hours at the Funeral Home are Thursday November13, from 4 to 7pm.
