S. Congdon Obituary

S. Perry Congdon II of Chicago S. Perry Congdon II, 83, resident of Chicago and World War II Navy veteran, died on November 13, 2008 at St. Francis Hospital. His parents, Dr. and Mrs. James L. Congdon, and his brothers, Dr. Paul U. Congdon and Philip C. Congdon, preceded him in death. Surviving are his sister, Carolyn C. Watson, and two sisters-in-law, Phyllis and Ramona Congdon, and 23 nieces and nephews. Educated at Fitchburg High School, Tufts University and Middlebury College, Perry taught English at Andover and Greenfield, Ma; Washington, Ct; and Oak Park, Il. He was a mentor for teacher trainees at Northeastern Illinois University and worked at the Law Bulletin Publishing Company. Perry was "patron of the arts," attending performances at Steppenwolf Theatre Company, Chicago Symphony Orchestra and The King's Singers. He was a member of Art Institute of Chicago and the New York Times Fine Arts Circle of Chicago. Perry assisted Russian immigrants in his neighborhood in their studies of American literature. He authored "The Drama Reader: Full Length Plays for the Secondary School."
