Walter V. 'Buck' Gutherie, Sr. Avid Golfer; 85 LYNN Mr. Walter V. "Buck" Gutherie, Sr., age 85, of Lynn, died peacefully in his sleep at his home on Wednesday, December 3, 2008. He was the husband of the late Eleanor (Gray) Gutherie. Born in Fayetteville, Arkansas, he was the son of the late Thomas Jefferson Gutherie and the late Mary (Lawson) Gutherie. He was raised in Arkansas, and had lived in Lynn for the past 60 years. Mr. Gutherie served in the Pacific with the United States Marine Corps during World War II. An Eagle Scout, he was a member of the Shriners, Scottish Rite, and Master Masons. An avid golfer, he was a member of the Gannon Golf Course. Buck was Past Commander and lifetime member of American Legion Post 291, a member of Franco American Amvets Post 161, and a member of 40/8. He is survived by 3 sons, Walter V. Gutherie, Jr. and his wife, Mary of Lynn, MA, Jerry R. Gutherie and his wife, Michaelene of Cape Coral, FL, and Thomas J. Gutherie of Las Vegas, NV; one daughter, Maryann Kane and her husband, Brian of Lunenburg, MA; as well as 9 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He also leaves many close friends from Gannon Golf Club. He was the brother-in-law of Claire Vickers and Barbara O'Connell, both of Lynn; and the brother of the late Thomas Jefferson Gutherie, and Bonnie Louise Bohannon. GUTHERIE His funeral will be held on Saturday at 10 A.M. in the SOLIMINE, LANDERGAN AND RICHARDSON FUNERAL HOME, 426 Broadway (Rt. 129), Lynn. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Lynn. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Visiting hours are Friday from 4-8 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to All Care Hospice, 16 City Hall Square, Lynn, MA 01901.
