It has been years now and yet, seems like it was only yesterday. You will always be remembered fondly and carry a special place in my heart. The last message you sent to me was so special, Nick, and I will cherish it always.

It was a year ago today that I learned of losing Nicholas, a nephew serving in the Army in Afghanistan. I didn't really lose my nephew, it just seems that the Nation has taken him to be one of their heroes.

Somehow that is not enough consolation, I wish I could have some time with Nicholas now, as I frittered away my chance and regret it deeply.
Nicholas taught me a few things through this last year.
1. Family is important.
2. Do not hesitate.
3. How wonderful Nicholas's father is, which makes me appreciate my father more realistically.

I think of you and your life's impact as an alert to all. Life is 'the present' not a place for delay and indecision. The way you lived your life helped us all.

Our Pastor referred to you during two of his Sunday services, he asked that we take a moment at 3pm today to remember you and Vets killed in action, just like you. Rest in Peace and thank you for having the back of so many Americans.

Memorial Day greetings, Nick.
While attending a concert last night I was remembering how strong your extended family became when we lost you and you became a National Hero. We all think of you and remember.

On this Memorial day I thank those from the 6/8 Nick Burley, James Wickliff, and Forrest Robertson for their ultimate sacrifice. Never forgotten.

On this Veterans Day I thank you Nick for your service

We learned of Nick's passing through our son Anthony (Ft Hood, TX) who was in Nick's basic training/AIT platoon. We attended their graduation and Nick flew out on the same first flight with us heading home,so we got to meet him. We found him to be a good & respectful young man & soldier who had the right stuff and upbringing. As parents we pray that Nick's family & friends find peace, we know Nick has.

Dearest Nick, I have loved you since day one. Your red hair certainly surprised me and your smile later on could really warm the heart of the coldest sole. I am so long in writing because I cannot stop the tears. Last time I saw you, you were headed to FH to see your father before leaving for Afghanistan. Uncle Bill and I sat and visited with your Mom . It was my job to keep her from crying as you left up the driveway. Little did I know it would be the last time.
Nickman you will never how much of a hole you left in all our lives. The huge amount of respect that was shown to you makes me especially proud to call you family. It gives a whole new meaning to 'Grand' Nephew. I love you and I miss you and I will the rest of my life. Watch over you Mom! The Lord will comfort the rest. Michael could use a little wink too. He has been the Man in all of this. He wrote the most beautiful story for you. You would be proud. I love you Nickman! See you on the other side!

My Dear Nick; Thank you for all you brought to the world and the people who loved you. My fondest memory of you is when you were 12-years-old and begging me to take my daughter to the movies. You grew up to be a hero and made everyone so proud of you. I'm so glad you spent that Christmas with us before you left. I'll cherish that memory. God bless you and your family. I have not seen you Nickolas since you were three or four years old and can't imagine that your young life has already passed by. Thank you for your service and sacrifice to our country. My heat goes out to Tim, Will, Zach and especially Mike. I am thinking about you all and you are in my prayers.

Heaven has received a special man who gave his life for the freedom of the people of this country. I feel very sad for his family and friends.
