Consultant Brian Sweeney, 38, was on his way from Boston to Los Angeles for business. When Sweeney realized the plane was hijacked, he made two phone calls: one to his parents, the other to his wife, Julie. She wasn't home, so he left his last words on the answering machine.

"He was calm and said, `I'm on the plane, it's been hijacked and it doesn't look good. But I want you to know how much I love you and my family,'" said Julie, a physical education and health teacher, from their home in Barnstable, Mass. The two were married in 1999. "He said to live a long life and be happy. And he said he'd see me again soon. Then he said he had to go."

At 9:03 a.m., the plane crashed.

"He enjoyed life more than anyone I've ever known," she said of her husband, an avid boater who loved spending time on the ocean with his wife. "He was one of the most incredible people I knew. Or ever will know."

Not sure what to say?

On a plane in Europe today and could not stop thinking of Brian. We had fun at BU and T's Pub. You are missed and not forgotten!

Brian aka "Moose," you are forever loved and missed.

Brian
I’m flying out if Boston today after spending the weekend remembering you with a lot of your old friends. We visited with your family, who are staying strong. You are still missed as much as you were 20 years ago my friend.

Julie,
We never got the chance to meet. Twenty years ago was a nightmare for us all. We really lost someone special in Moose, but I hope that you are living your best, happiest life possible. It's undoubtedly what he wanted. I have not forgotten him and am sending you and your family wishes of continued peace and strength. He is watching over us all. We will see him again one day. God bless you and God bless this country he served.

Well Brian, It's September 10th at 9:25 P.M. Tomorrow will be the 20th anniversary of your last morning on earth. It somehow doesn't seem possible. The world has changed, this country has changed. I don't think you would recognize it now. I'm still in Maine and reading my note from 2019 I'm afraid the weather is just about the same, rainy and overcast but the sun did come out this afternoon and it really was quite warm overall. Tomorrow is sure to be a major day of remembrance on TV. I...

I will never forget you. It was a privilege.

Brian, another year. Stay strong. You are always in our thoughts.

Here we go again, Brian. September 11, 2019. Eighteen years after that terrible day We are all older, but I'm not at all sure of the "wiser" part. I'm thinking back to that day in September, 2001 on Cape Cod. It was one of our typical, warm, and sunny Fall days. Absolutely beautiful, but not for long. Today in Downeast Maine it is a little chilly, clouded over, and rainy. It's kind of like the world is weepy remembering that day. There is a whole generation of kids around...
