I had the honor of being in the honor guard for TSgt Moss' funeral service. I remeber being out in the grass to fire the 21 gun salute. I had tears running down my face out there that you couldn't see. And when we marched back to our vehicle and past the bikers and the folks there to pay respects, I still had tears in my eyes. Even after all these years, it still makes me sad to have lost a fellow brother in arms. RIP, Sir

Hello...my name is Renee Newpher. I'm retired USAF MSgt. I am walking in Run for the Fallen in Tampa Fl on 20 Sept 2015. The night before the run was ceremony and there are crosses for fallen. I got my bib for run and each had picture and name of fallen. My bib had TSgt Walter Moss on it...I went to look for cross and couldn't find it anywhere...people helped me look and still no cross...all crosses there were from fallen from Florida...I looked up TSgt Walter and said he's from TX....anyway Not sure why I rec'd his picture and name on my bib but I wanted you to know that I'm blessed to walk in his honor...I feel close to him since he was USAF...and I was especially honored finding out he was stationed at MT Home AFB. I was stationed there from Dec 2000 to March 2005. You are not forgotten and I believe God gave me your name for reason...Thank you for your service and rest in peace

I am shocked and saddened to just learn of Walt's death. His dad was a member of my church and I vividly remember his freckles and cute little smile. Even though I haven't seen or heard from any of the Moss family, there is still that connection and loving memories of the boy. I am not surprised to learn he turned into an honorable man, a dad & husband, and ,sadly, one of our Nation's Heroes. To his own little family I offer my sincere prayers for your continued recovery from such a loss. He obviously was a man of integrity with many friends. To his parents, I offer my sorrow & tears for you. To lose a child at any age is not something we ever want to face. God is in the midst of your pain and He holds you with love and compassion. I pray for you to maintain and heal. Be comforted in your knowledge that you will be with him again in Heaven.

I will never forget the work you did for the 3d Ord BN (EOD) during OIF or your ultimate sacrifice. It is amazing how time can make people cross paths again. I remember when you was an Airman and I was a Captain going through EOD school together, back in 1990. We met again in Iraq and after many years but you still had the warm personality and endeavor to perform in a stellar manner. You were always a consummate professional. I wear a remembrance bracelet with your name, to this day. I hope that time has eroded some of the edges for your family and friends.

I was deployed to sather AB, baghdad during Walt's deployment in march 2006. The chaplain & I met with Walt's EOD team after he passed away... We heard, "he was always talking about his wife and kids, he was the best person I knew." Walt was obviously loved by his fellow Airmen. Most wept - including the chaplain & me. Walt still impacts me in a great way. Appreciation for life, family and service. Walt Moss is a HERO. GOD BLESS HIS FAMILY AND FRIENDS. WHAT A WONDERFUL MAN.

The Last Walk
A Bomb Technician is a different type of person. He’s a special type of person. So special in fact, that his walk is different. Not by choice, it’s just what he does. He walks in the footsteps of past leaders and most of the time, in front of them. He’d rather be amongst his teammates, but he can’t. He enjoys their camaraderie, but he wants to be alone. He loves his teammates. But, because of this, he does not want them in danger. For he is a Hero.
When he is called to do his job he must complete his walk. As he does, his qualities show. He doesn’t want to show them, but there they are. With Valor, he walks forward into danger to protect others. That’s his goal. He walks, so civilizations can move forward, without fear. For he is Selfless. An Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Bomb Technician is even more special. He not only steps forward for the community but also for his fellow soldiers. He walks, to clear their way and give them a safe passage, so they may proceed without fear. For he is their Sentinel. Then, when he is done, he quietly walks away. For he is also Humble.
He walks into danger. He doesn’t run or charge, he walks with a purpose. For he is Confident. This walk into danger is his walk, his different walk. Some describe it as, “The Longest Walk”. That’s fine by him, he has time. For he is also Patient. His walk is typically 300 feet, usually longer. In this 300 feet, he plans his next move, thinks of the last time he spoke to his family, and how he’s going to call them when he’s done, 300 feet to thank God for giving him the opportunity to do this job and 300 feet to ask God to grant him another bomb call. A Bomb Technician may walk by himself but he is not alone. He walks with God and His blessing of Courage. He walks with the knowledge and confidence he has gained from experience and fellow Bomb Technicians. It’s a long walk but that’s okay, he has a plan before he begins.
An EOD Bomb Technician has many responsibilities. That’s alright, for he has broad shoulders. He can carry the burden with ease. For he is Strong. He carries it with Pride and always with a smile on his face. He must clear the path for his fellow soldiers. He must also look for danger coming from every direction.
From above, such as a dropped munitions. He must make it safe.
From the front, such as artillery or a grenade from the enemy. He must make it safe.
From below, such as a land mine. He must make it safe.
An EOD Bomb Technician won’t rest until it is safe. That’s okay for he is Persistent. No matter how long it takes, he will take his time and do it right. Because that the way he is. For he is Dependable.
A Bomb Technician has many tools, but none of them are more important than himself. He has ability to adapt. For he is Versatile and Resourceful. A soldier carries a rifle; an EOD Bomb Technician carries a disrupter, rope and tape. With them, he can move an Army. In fact he does. An EOD Bomb Technician must carry all of it, for there are many dangers. That’s why he is here. Before using his disruptor he yells, “Fire in the Hole” three times. A Bomb Technician is not a loud person; his goal is to warn his fellow soldiers. For he is their Beacon. No matter what tool he chooses, he uses it with precision. For his is Sure.
This doesn’t describe all Bomb Technicians, just one, Tech. Sgt. Walter M. Moss.
Walter M. Moss is this Bomb Technician and more, much more. Walter did more, much more. Walter had more qualities, much more. Those who had the Honor of knowing Walter will tell you this. He wouldn’t. But that was Walter.
Tech. Sgt. Walter M. Moss was deployed as an EOD Bomb Technician for the United States Air Force. He has completed his long walk many times. Time to think of the next time he can speak to his parents and friends and tell them he loves them, time to think of how to make sure they don’t worry about him and what he’s doing, time to think of getting back to his family in Houston or fellow soldiers in Idaho, time to thank God for blessing him and giving him strength.
In his last deployment, the day came when Tech. Sgt. Walter M. Moss was called to make his walk again. To make it safe for his fellow soldiers. With pride and a smile, Tech. Sgt. Walter M. Moss stepped forward like before and began his walk. But on this day, God needed a Sergeant/Bomb Technician to walk with Him. Only one man could fill that billet. On this day, Tech. Sgt. Walter M. Moss completed, his “Last Walk”.

Saturday I went to Hempstead for the inaugural Watermelon Run For The Fallen. This event was organized by Police Chief David Hartley, who lost his son SSgt Jeffery Hartley in Afghanistan in April of 2008. I had worked with Mr. Hartley and his CAO, Sgt Toliver Hill, in compiling all the names of the fallen heroes from Texas, over 500. Each runner was given a packet at registration that contained a T-shirt, wristband and most importantly a fallen hero’s biography. There was a letter size card to pin to your back that had the name of the soldier you were running for. It was an emotional moment when I opened my packet and found out I was running for Walter. I was the led RC for the PGR at his services. It was on honor to run for TSgt Walter Moss.

Not a day goes by that I don't think of you guys and the sacrifice you've made. Thank you again for sharing Walt with us. I recently returned from Iraq and believe it or not, Walt was there with me riding in my JERRV. Maybe not in body, but in spirit. I could hear him 'talking sense' to me like he used to in training. Yet again, he's saved lives. He is a true hero and I feel very lucky to have known him.
Walt,

Hey Walt, I can't believe it has been two years already that we went to Ft Carson together for CST. It seems like just yesterday that you and I would get up before everyone else and go start the hummers so the team would be warm when we pulled out. My memories are filled with our times together at Ft Carson and Camp Buehring playing cribbage, trading movies, and you trying to explain to me how to write a computer program before we eventually went our separate ways into Iraq. From one Walt to another, thanks for all the good memories buddy, you will never be forgotton! GOD bless you and your family!

Gina,
I hadn't seen you since Turkey and evac. day. I think of you often and wonder how you are. I know time has passed but I imagine that you still face some very hard days. Just wanted you to know that you are thought of and Walt is still remembered.
Sincerely,
Randy and Scott Baker

There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer you and your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.
Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.
I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON, a dear family friend who joined the Army with three other friends, one of whom is my son (Le Ron was killed in action on 07/06/07 at the age of 18) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.
REST IN PEACE, HERO, YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN!!

It's been over a year now since you've been taken from this world. Not a single day has gone by that your memory isn't with me. Not a single day goes by that the scars of war are not imprinted on my mind. I miss your guidance when I'm lost. I miss your smile when I'm mad. I lost a great mentor, and the best of friends that night. I will always remember the good times though. Forever.
