I met Bernie while at a friends house last spring. I didn't spend a lot of time with him but I remember we shared one common interest... guinea pigs. At the time, I had only one and I was looking to possibly get another. Bernie's had recently had babies and he was showing them to me and telling me about all their funny quirks. It makes me really sad that someone with so much of a laid back and free spirit could have something so tragic befall them. My sincerest condolences go to his family and closest friends.

To Bernie's Family
I am so sorry to hear of your loss. I am a teacher at Martin Kellogg and have fond memories of Bernie and his infectious smile. I remember him making me laugh when we were on the Williamsburg trip. In more recent years, I would run into him getting my morning coffee at Goldberg's. He still had that smile and was so proud to tell me he was going to be a father. I hope that you and your family will find comfort in knowing that Bernie's smile brightened many people's day.

Mary, Megan, Chris & Family,
No words can express how deeply sorry we are for your loss. We have so many fond memories of Bernie. Especially for me, I had the opportunity to watch Bernie grow from a strong willed, energetic, loving baby to an extraordinary, caring, handsome young man. He will never be forgotten. I'll never forget all our memories together. From the days of babysitting him to the joys and memories of Cape Cod. I am grateful that my family had the opportunity to become close to Bernie and share in fond memories, as well. I know Rob will never enjoy a Yankees/Red Sox game as much as he did with Bernie. Alyssa & Robert looked up to him as a big brother. Alyssa's admiration of him is unexplainable. Her eyes would light up when ever he walked into a room. He has a special place in her heart. He will forever be in our hearts, memories and prayers. We will never forget the joy and happiness he brought into our lives. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of you in your time of need and always. We love you.
Love always,

I don't even know what to say. I am so sorry for your loss. I have so many fond memories of all of us growing up. The snow storms and playing together outside, even the few times I came over to babysit. (When Christopher clearly disliked me and Megan and Bernie were my only allies.) Bernie was such a wonderful person and he will be missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. I found this poem and hope it brings you a bit of comfort in this terrible time.
The Broken Chain
We little knew that morning that
God was going to call your name.
In life we loved you dearly.
In death we do the same.
It broke our hearts to lose you.
You did not go alone,
for part of us went with you
the day God called you home.
You left us peaceful memories.
Your love is still our guide.
And though we cannot see you,
you are always at our side.
Our family chain is broken
and nothing will ever be the same the same,
but as God calls us one by one,
the Chain will link again.

Mary, Megan, Chris and family,
I can't even imagine the pain you all feel. I only know the pain I feel, it is nothing compared to yours. We met when we moved into our house, right across from you. Bernie was just a baby with a set of lungs that could pierce your ear drums! We had so much fun during the snowstorms when Jerry was plowing, most of all putting the kids in a sled and going to Friendly's for dinner. Remember being outside on my driveway with our daycares(remember I had no front or backyard that year, because Jerry wanted new grass). Mike and Bernie were so protective of their Fisher Price tricycles. So many memories, I know I drove Bernie nuts calling him Nardi Bernardi, and Nardo Bernardo, but he always smiled that handsome smile and showed dimples. I will miss him. I can only hope that your happy memories help with the pain you will face in the future. Remember I'm right across the street. I am so very sorry for your loss and I love you all. Beth
