Thomas Riley Obituary

RILEY, Thomas Raymond, Jr. Thomas Raymond Riley Jr. 55, of West Hartford, was taken from us abruptly on Sunday (April 20, 2008). He was the beloved husband of Sharon (Worrell) Riley and loving father of Ryan T Riley and Kelly (Riley) Curley and her husband, Michael G. Curley, also of West Hartford. Tom was born in Hartford on July 12, 1952. He was predeceased by his parents, Thomas Raymond Riley Sr. and Mary (O'Grady) Riley. He lived his entire life in West Hartford and attended Conard High School. His main concern was always for his family. He worked very hard to provide for them as a groundskeeper at The University of Hartford, where he was recently honored as Employee of the Quarter. He also worked for many years in auto sales. He loved to relax on Sundays and get bagels for his family and his beloved Greyhound, "Albe." He also loved doing anything outdoors, especially working in his yard. Tom and his family enjoyed vacationing in Wells, Maine and he was always fond of the beach. He was a devoted husband and father and will be dearly missed. His hard working spirit will live on through the legacy of his children, Kelly and Ryan. Tom was loved by many, especially the love of his life, "Woo" his wife of 25 years. He is also survived by his brother, Kevin Riley of New Britain, his father in law, James Worrell Sr. of West Hartford, his brother in law, James Worrell Jr. of Texas, his nieces and nephews, Christopher, Jimmy, Katie, Meredith, James III and many other family and friends. Funeral services will be Thursday with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in the Church of St. Helena, Echo Lane in West Hartford. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery. Friends and family may call Wednesday from 4-7 p.m. at the Molloy Funeral Home, 906 Farmington Ave. West Hartford. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to WAG (weadoptgrey hounds.org) or The Lance Corporal Lawrence R. Philippon Memorial Scholarship Fund c/o Conard High School 110 Beechwood Rd. West Hartford, CT 06107. On line expressions of sympathy may be made at www. molloyfuneralhome.com.

Hi Sharon,

It's probably been 30 plus years since we've seen each other. Tommy Collagan told me today about Tom's death. I'm so sorry. I always liked Tom. He was a good guy. Be strong & carry on.

On behalf of The Entrepreneurial Center on the Asylum Avenue Campus, UofH, Tom will be missed so very much - he brought his own special brand of 'sunshine' to us on a daily basis and was always willing to give us a hand with anything we needed. On a 'personal' note, Tom was a very good friend - we enjoyed sharing 'wedding' stories over the last year, (my youngest daughter got married in September) - Tom helped me decorate in Butterworth Hall for the bridal showers of both my daughters (my oldest daughter got married last October). Tom will be missed by everyone whose lives he 'touched', yet his family and friends will never be alone because he will be with us always in spirit and in the memories he gave us to keep. My heartfelt condolences go out to his family.

Tom was always there for me to help prepare our University of Hartford campus grounds for the numerous special events that we host during the course of a year. He was always a professional. He was also a friend and I always looked forward to his tales of life at the Asylum Avenue campus and the more personal stories from his home life.
The tales concerning planning for his daughter's wedding have given me a
bit of a blueprint of what to think about, when my daughter's day arrives. Above that, an appreciation of family and friends that he never overlooked or took for granted.
He is and will be missed.
He will always be remembered.
My heartfelt sympathy to his family.

My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family Ryan. It is very hard for you and your family but time heals all the wounds even the deepest ones. I know that from my experience.
Ryan just remember this Psalm:
The Lord is my shepherd. I have everything I need he lets me rest in fields of green grass and leads me to quiet pools of fresh water. He gives me new strength. He quides me in the right paths, as he has promised. Even if I go through the deepest darkness, I will not be afraid, Lord, for you are with me always. Psalm 23. Your father is in much better place right now and he watches you and your family.
Thank You for being there. Always.

Sharon,Ryan,Kelly,Mike...
Our families were together just the night before Tom was striken. It is a circle of love and sharing that we all know he so enjoyed. Thanks for that. His joy for his children and love for them and his bride are forever a happiness that will light us up in the darkness we feel now at his death. We cannot ever forget his love and joy for each of us. He will always be with us and we will give him honor always.

Sharon, Ry, Kel, and Mike-
Tom was one of the most loving and amazing fathers and husbands to ever grace this earth. I know he will be greatly missed by many for years to come. Kelly- your family has always been like a 2nd family to me since we were 8 and I will never forget how important you all were to him and how much love he had for his family. I am so glad that he got to walk you down the aisle and see how beautiful and happy you were that day. I know he was so happy too. I know he will be looking down on you all forever protecting you from harm, along with Mike's dad, Albe, and Tracy all watching . I am sure he is resting in peace knowing Mike and Ryan will always be there to take care of you Kel and Sharon. My heart aches for you and I love you all as though you were my family. I will always be here for you whenever you need a shoulder.
Love, Allie ( or Allie McBeal like Tom would say)

Sharon, Kelly, Ryan and Mike,

My heart achs for all of you. I cannot begin to fully understand the pain you are experiencing now and in years to come. I can; however, tell you how wonderful it was to have known such a happy and charismatic father and husband.

I look at pictures from Kelly and Mike's wedding only to find expressions of utter bliss on Tom's face. His love for all of you was so obvious that I can only smile when I think of him.

You should carry confidence that his spirit will live on through each of you; wether it be his dry sense of humor, his incredible dedication to his family, or his gentle kindness.

My thoughts and prayers are with you. Love you all.

On behalf of the Theatre Division of the Hartt School on the Asylum Avenue campus, we will miss Tom very much. He was always willing to help us at any time and there is a big void that will be hard to fill. He was a generous man with his time and we miss him already.

Dear Sharon, Ryan, Kelly & Mike,
On behalf of myself, Emily & Mike I'd like to extend our heartfelt condolences over the loss of your husband/father. I wish I could give you answers as to why this tragedy happened or how to get through it, but I can't. I'd also like to say when it will get easier but after 39 days I don't have that answer either. You just have to go forward and know that you are all in everyone's thoughts and prayers.
I'm sure Tom was greeted at the gates of heaven with a 'Tracy hug'
Sincerely,

Mike Curley

Tom, Thank you so much for everything you have done for me. You are a great man and I always admired you. I will do my best to follow your lead and watch out for Kelly and your family. We will all take care of Sharon and make sure she is never alone. I know you will be watching over us all and I know that you now finally are able to meet my father and be reunited with Albe. I just want to thank you again for all the love and guidance you gave me. You were a great father to Kelly and Ryan and to me. We will miss you more than words can say.
