Lenora Hayes Obituary

HAYES, Lenora "Lee" (Tompkins) Lenora "Lee" (Tompkins) Hayes, 81, formerly of Elmwood died peacefully on Sunday, (August 7, 2005). She was the beloved wife of the late Robert L. Hayes. Born and raised in Sharon, daughter of the late David B. Tompkins and Nora (Walsh) Tompkins, Mrs. Hayes was an Elmwood resident since 1951. She was a longtime West Hartford school crossing guard and a member of the Elmwood Community Club. Lee was an avid bowler for many years and had a real zest for life. She enjoyed making friends wherever she went. A loving and devoted mother and grandmother, she leaves her daughter and son-in-law, Lynn and Bill Kelly of Newington; her son and daughter-in-law James and Susan Hayes of California; five grandchildren, Scott, Robert, and Laura Kelly and her fiance Mike Kelliher, and Matthew and Jessica Hayes. She also leaves her sister Henrietta "Tommy" Shaw of West Hartford; and many nieces and nephews. She was pre-deceased by seven brothers and a sister. Her family would like to extend its appreciation to Dr. Harry Morgan and the caring employees of Andrew House, New Britain. Her funeral service will be held on Thursday, at 9:15 a.m. from the Newington Memorial Funeral Home, 20 Bonair Ave., Newington, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial, at 10 a.m. at Church of the Holy Spirit, Newington. Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery, West Hartford. Relatives and friends are invited to call on TODAY from 5-8 p.m. at Newington Memorial. Memorial donations may be made to the Society for Progressive Supranuclear Palsy, Executive Plaza III, 11350 McCormick Road, Suite 906, Hunt Valley, MD 21031.
